Do You "Cram" Before Going to the Dentist?

Dental hygiene is really an everyday kind of activity. Or rather, a twice a day activity when it comes to brushing. Flossing, on the other hand, can sometimes be difficult to fit into the daily routine.

When you slack on taking care of your gums regularly, your dentist will certainly scold you. Mine did many years ago and her cautionary tale inspired me to floss regularly. However, I have noticed that my husband "crams" before going to the dentist, just like we both did before college exams. About two weeks before his dental appointment, he suddenly begins flossing twice a day and using special mouthwash. After he's seen the dentist, his avid flossing goes out the window for another five and a half months.

What about you . . .

Haha... I go to the dentist tomorrow and to "prepare" I've been flossing every night for the past two weeks. I usually don't remember to floss more than a couple times a month!

i always try to make sure that flossing is in my routine, but i can say that i don't manage to do it EVERY day. i'm a bit more regular about it than just doing it for the 2 weeks prior to my appt, but i know that i could do it more.

I floss occasionally. I do try to do it once a day but it gets forgotten a lot.

I used to never floss, but then I got nine small cavities, all in between my teeth. I can't say I floss every single day, but I do make a much stronger effort to floss regularly. It's been five years, and still no more cavities!

I've been trying to floss and use mouthwash the past 6 mos, but it's not very routine. I at least have a better grip on brushing twice a day, but the flossing is tough.

I'm with Xtinabeena. I use mouthwash, too. It's a firm habit with me. It feels unnatural if I DON'T do it.

Shopaholichunny, poor your dentist, he has to endure bad smell coming from your mouth because you didn't bother to eat.

Ah! Yes! But it is such a pain for me. I absolutely LOVE sour candy and lemons and limes. Everything that has a ridiulous amount of acid in it, I love. Which is bad because I also have sensitive teeth. So I really have to scrub and scrub. I might as well get a degree in Dentistry and be my own dentist.

I'm so bad about this! I start flossing about two weeks before my cleanings, but I do brush and use mouthwash every day. My dentist hasn't ever told me that my teeth or gums are bad or anything, but she does remind me to floss all the time. My husband's way worse though...he will sometimes go a week without brushing his teeth and he'll just use mouthwash instead. I am trying to break him of that habit by going on "kissing strikes"...ie, no kissing until he brushes his teeth, lol.

    I've never flossed.
Probably why I am sat here with a face like a hamster because I've just had two fillings!! Hahaha. Bringing my total to... 11 fillings.

    Sad

I try to floss at least once a week. I used to be way more religious about it when I was single though. And then.. I'm big on brushing my teeth at night. Since I don't have medical insurance myself (hubby and daughter are taken care of.. I'm a firm believer in mind-over-matter.. rarely have to go to the doctor...) so I try to take excellent care of myself. With this next tax return instead of buying something for our home/family I intend on going to the dentist. I want to get everything taken care of and any/all problems fix so I won't have to go back for a while.

I think out of everybody I know my teeth are better than almost everyone I know, except for one (gay) guy friend that is actually older than me... and maybe my daughter's teeth also. I'm going to teach her to be so good to her teeth.. better than my husband and his side of his family. I'm so scared she'll be lazy about it like them.
