When you practice yoga, your body can experience many changes from your head to your toes. Your muscles strengthen and become more defined, you become more flexible, and your posture improves so you may appear taller. What about your feet though?
I've heard of people's shoe sizes changing after practicing yoga for a while. The reason this may happen is because your feet are so active when doing yoga poses. You're always working on spreading and relaxing your toes, and pressing into the little toe-side of your foot to help lift your arches. It's like a strength training workout for your tootsies, making the muscles in them stronger. This happens with dancers and gymnasts, too, and many will experience a slight increase in shoe size. This isn't a bad thing, it just means that you are working your feet, which will help improve balance and prevent injury.
Yoga may also result in a decrease in shoe size. To find out why read more.
If you're practicing yoga and losing weight, your feet may shrink a little. It's not necessarily because of yoga, but just the fact that you're dropping pounds. I know you'd much rather lose weight elsewhere, but since you can't choose where the fat melts away, you'll notice you lose it overall. Tell me, have any of you encountered a change in your shoe size?

it's funny that this is something that we think about - but for myself - i used to be a dancer and i found that my feet got a little wider - but it's not a bad thing. i have very very narrow feet that i would have to special order my pointe shoes and after 13+ years doing it, i saw that they weren't AS narrow any longer.
1yoga means weight loss and since i lost 16lbs in the last few months my shoe size went down.
2I do yoga about 4 or 5 times a week and have been for about 2 years. My feet have gotten wider for sure. It actually saddens me a little bit -- so many cute shoes are uncomfortable for me now.
3idk but yoga rules
4I'm just starting to try yoga for stress control (and finding out that I have NO coordination whatsoever), so I'll definitely be aware of this now.
5i am doing yoga for 1,5 years 3-4 times a week and my feet are still the same, maybe my feet were flexible before yoga
6My feet went from the size 8 that they grew into during pregnancy back into 7 1/2 - might have been from weight loss. The one thing that wasn't weight related: I'm a full 1/2" taller.
7That was the biggest tease ever.
8i concur with the feet getting wider statement...
9I guess it could be...
10I lost about 10 lbs a year and a half ago, and all my shoes were fitting loosely and I could see the bones on the tops of my feet slightly more. it was so weird!
