Do you remember a little while back I told you about SOYJOY bars. If you gave them your address, they promised to send you 3 free bars.

As exciting as it was to get free treats in the mail, I'm sorry to say these bars are pretty gross. They look homemade which is cool, but they tasted more like cookies gone bad.
First of all, they smelled kind of funky, like the health food stores my gramma dragged me to as a child. When I opened them, they looked dark and brick-like. When I tried all 3 flavors they sent me - Raisin Almond, Berry, and Apple - all 3 of them tasted pretty much the same - yucky!
They were really dense, dry, and truthfully, it weirded me out that "frozen eggs" was listed in the ingredients. Butter was also listed, but I sure didn't taste it.
Looking at the label, they do have 240mg of potassium, 3g of fiber, 4% of your daily iron intake, and 4g of protein from the soy. That's impressive for a tiny 130 calorie bar.
Tell Me: Have any of you ever tried a SOYJOY bar? Did you send away for your free bars? What did you think?

I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. I had actually forgotten all about them. Thanks for the heads up, I'll post about them after they get here.
1Oh that doesn't sound good Fit. I requested mine last night, then I looked at the nutritional info for each bar and was shocked at how low the protein content was compared to the carbs and calories per bar. The I looked at the ingredients and kind of threw up in my mouth a little - why is the Parmesan Cheese in the raisin almond bar?
I haven't tasted them yet and my tastes have changed sense the surgery, who knows maybe I'll like it, but I suspect not.
I think I'll stick with my raw foods protein bar. 256 calories and over 20 grams of protein and 13 grams of carbs (9 are from sugar) with 42 different raw whole foods crammed inside. The peanut butter and raw honey bar tastes like delicious peanut butter cookie dough but it has kale and spinach in it. The amazing things you find at Whole Foods.
2I got mine today. I really wanted to like these. I'm a sucker for any of these "health food" bars, so I was excited when they arrived. I choked down the berry, gave the apple to the dogs and saved the raisin for my husband (who will most likely decline to finish it). I didn't care for the flavor or texture at all. I'll stick to my Luna bars!
3Oh no! That stinks. I haven't got mine yet, but I guess I don't have much to look forward too.
Wackdoodle- what is the brand name of the raw food bars you buy? They sound great.
4YEAH! I CAN COMMENT AGAIN!! (can't log on at work anymore!)
My kid hated them and I had to spit mine out. I did share the other two...left them on the microwave at work. ANything will disappear like that!
5I got mine in the mail today, too!! I haven't tried them, though, because this is day 3 of South Beach Diet Phase 1 - no sugar/fruit/etc. I was really upset to get them today, but now I know I'm not missing anything. Thanks for the review!
6oh no...i requested mine back when you mentioned them and now i'm not so excited anymore. a friend told me she saw a commercial for "some soy thing...it rhymed with soy...and it TOTALLY reminded me of you!" and i said WAiTTT SOY JOY?! haha turns out it was...i've got a reputation at work for always bringing wacky diet food.
7Mallomar - I don't remember the exact name it's something like "Perfect Foods raw protein bar" or something and I finished off my last bit in class and meant to save the wrapper to remind myself of the name but instead I trashed the wrapper. I remember that it's not a vegan product because it contains raw honey and eggs and weirdly egg shells. I swear egg shells but you'd never know.
I know that this protein bar is extremely parishable and its refrigated. Darn I'll have to run over to WF and look at what exactly there called. Hopefully there not sold out. When I find the name I'll put it in my profile or here on this post.
So these Soyjoy bars are compressed sawdust eh?
8YES YES YES!!! I got mine today too!!! i tried the Berry one already and really did love it. It wasnt too sweet at all. i cant stand nutrigrain bars bc its just wayyyyy to sweet. It kept me full for a long time which is always nice. I have early morning class and these seem like the perfect on the go breakfast. definitely gonna get these next time at the store.
9haha but it looks like im the only one. but im also in college and love any sort of free stuff.
10oh no i got mine today too and i was so excited!! i will still try them though...aww i will be so disappointed if i don't like them!!
11I took a bite of the berry bar and thought - "ummm... I'm glad I got it for free.". It wasn't horrible - it just wasn't good.
12i got mine in the mail last week and although i didn't try one, my roommate and my sister each had one and they both thought the same thing -- gross! i was going to eat one, but now i'm scared, hah.
13I got mine last week and tried one of them. I like them so far.
14I got mine last week and tried one of them. I like them so far.
15I got mine last week and tried one of them. I like them so far.
16I'll stick with my Lemon Zest Luna Bars! Those are YUM!
17Thanks wackdoodle! I will keep an eye out for them next time Im at whole foods.
18I didn't order any because I can't eat soy but my friends who did have described them as "socks" "dirt" and worse.
19I'm so glad to hear all of your reviews. It's good to hear that some of you liked them - I didn't really want to give them a bad reputation considering they were nice enough to send us 3 free bars.
Wacknoodle - thanks for the tip on those other bars. I'll have to try them.
20I had a SoyJoy bar a couple months ago that I got for free at an event, I think it was Mango Coconut, and I actually really liked the texture and flavor. I do have questionable tastes in food (amoung other things)...
21I forgot about these as well. I actually just got my three free Yogi teas yesterday. Im so excited to try them!
Now for these bars, Im kinda grossed out. Truth be told, I was creeped out from the start, with the mention of their use of frozen egg, but I said what the heck, I can give these a try since they are free. Not so excited about this anymore...
22I got mine this week as well. I tried the apple one last night between work and dance class and thought it was okay. The flavor isn't too bad, they're just terribly dry.
23The grape bar actually made me gag.
24
butrfly! thats a smart thing to do
25I didn't request the freebies when you first posted about them, but I got one for free yesterday at an event and was intrigued by it. Now, I'm not so sure. I'm kind of glad I only have the one to choke down instead of three!
26I've seen the ads in my fitness magazines and they always looked so good. Thanks for the heads up!
27Fitsugar....I got the mango coconut (instead of the raisin)...it was awesome...the other 2 (berry and apple) were gross though. I cant see raisin being good.
28So I would try the coconut one
Oh good! I'm glad you liked the coconut mango. Wish they sent me that one to try...
29They were so nasty that my wife and i threw the last 1 1/2 bars away. They tasted like cardboard, fig newtons, and cheese, with so many choices for protein bars I probably won't be buying them.
30They don't look Good at all!
31Yeah Hope, that's what I thought too, which doesn't really motivate you to take a bite out of it.
32ash_marisa, i completely agree. the coconut mango was the only enjoyable bar to eat :]
33I got a few free at an event, and they were disgusting. I hate wasting food, but I had to throw these away. I couldn't even choke them down.
34I LOVED the Mango ones, I haven't tried the other two flavors I received yet, but if I bought any more, I would have to say the Mango are awesome.
35I've tried the mango coconut and the berry, and I have to say I actually really like them. I don't find them dry at all. I think for those who like sweeter things (like most snack/energy bars are) then you may not like it, but it really tastes like a denser cake or cookie with dried fruit. I think they're great! Give them a chance!
36I have to say I agree with bunnyliu. I enjoy non processed and the not too sickeningly sweet taste of this dense and satisfying snack!.
As someone who grew up with whole wheat nutrition, health food stores, and even those really brown "fig newton" type cookies in the Whole Foods Bulk Bins. I enjoyed (and miss) the health food style products of my youth. I am now a celiac (Intolerant to wheat, rye, barley and oats). I am a little surprised by the rude and dismissive descriptions of a natural and non processed tasting product. Judging by the references to other bars, I am curious if those here who have commented are people who have intolerences and who live on a gluten free diet. If not why are you purchasing or ordering a (free) gluten free product?...And then putting it down for it's taste or texture?
People who were gluten intolerant had to endure horrible products or do without for decades. This product clearly says "gluten free", and another perk o grams of fat (most GF foods have a LOT of fat, to make up for it's crumbly texture due to lack of gluten) In the past celiacs would get sick on chewing gum because the dusting of the gum in order for it not to stick to the conveyer belt was often food grade starch of unknown origin. It did not need to be listed as an ingredient or warning if it was not an ingredient in the recipe. Until a recent passing of laws forcing companies to diclose allergens...Celiac Disease and other food allergans were really in the closet, and it got no publicity. Now there are more products coming out for people like me. But still, good products disappear due to unkind reviews like yours, influencing the sales of products like these.
Please, if this is not a product you "need", like glucose tablets, or Diabetic Drinks for a Diabetic, helping. to sustain a Diabetic during the day, please do not put down Gluten Free products of this type of food if it is NOT medically neccesary for your health, just because you don't like it. Even if it is free, (especially if it is free...a company like that should be commended!!!) Please, Just don't use it anymore.
373 free bars? I just received 3 free BOXES of these! How in the world did I get 3 free boxes??? All boxes are berry flavored. They're not bad but not good. Good thing hubby likes them. They remind me of a very dry fig newton in a way and the supposed exotic fruit reminds me of raisins. Like I said, not bad but just not good either.
38I lived in Northern VA last year. I did not know about it. A few months ago I got 6 of them in Taiwan as a gift for blood donation. They are about US$0.95 each in Taiwan. Now I see them in Shanghai at about US$1.1 each. Personally I prefer Clif bars.
39I went online to see if there was an American distributor of SOYJOY. I was in Japan last month and picked up a handful of SOYJOY at the airport in Tokyo for souvenirs. My 12 year old daughter loved them which thrilled me because I would much prefer she take that as a snack to school rather than the less nutritious food she might take or buy. We finished the last bar today, and I am going to see if I can get more. I also enjoyed them. ( I do not know what the ingredients are because it 1s all in Japanese- it does say 136 kcal(calories). There is a website in English on the bar: www.otsuka.co.jp/soy/
