Trans fat has become a naughty word in my house. I try to avoid it at all costs, and it looks like pregnant women should as well.
A new study shows that eating trans fat may increase the risk of fetal death during pregnancy. This study discovered that the risk of miscarriage increased 52 percent for women who consumed a diet high in trans fat, about 4.7 percent of their total calories. Women, who ate less trans fast, about 2.2 percent of their total calories, had a 30 percent risk. Further investigation is clearly needed to learn more about the connection between eating trans fat and fetal deaths, but the evidence to avoid this artery clogging fat so far seems pretty clear. I would like to add, if it's unhealthy for pregnant women, then it seems everyone should be ditching the trans fat in their diets too.
These fats are found in many processed foods like crackers, cookies, cake mixes, soups, fast food, and margarine. So check labels and if you see partially hydrogenated oil in the list of ingredients, it's best to put down the package and walk away.

I don't think stories based on statistics are particularly useful, I mean you can make statistics say what ever you want!
1Of course you should avoid transfats but I see people every day that have the poorest of diets who are having babies at my hospital.
wow - this is something new that i didn't really think about before. yes i think that EVERYONE should be reducing the amount of trans-fat in their diet, but if there's a study that shows that you put yourself at higher risk for miscarraige, then it's something that you really should focus on. for myself - i think that i'm def going to need to get a nutritionist when i'm preggo since i don't know what i can and can't eat and since im a vegetarian, there's even more of a short list.
2regardless, why do people just insist on eating garbage? if it comes from a box or a can (and it's not tuna in water or olive oil) then why are you ingesting it!? if most of your garbage consists of wrappers you're probably full of trans-plastic.
