What do Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey have in common, besides their skintight matching outfits?

Both celebs participated in the Malibu Nautica Triathlon yesterday. The race benefits LA Children's Hospital and it make sense that two new parents would want to help a renowned pediatric hospital. This sprint distance triathlon is comprised of a half-mile swim, an 18-mile bike ride, and four mile run. The celebrity charity distances might be a little shorter, but J Lo and Matthew still jumped in the ocean, pedaled on a bike, and finished all that up with a run. A well rounded workout for a Sunday morning.
Having done a sprint triathlon recently, I guess I now have something in common with these celebs too. I must say, I think training for any kind of endurance race is a great motivator, but since triathlons are all about cross training, they're great for preventing overuse injuries. So I think you should try a tri if you haven't already. If you're looking for a race check out Active.com for race listings near you. And here's a training schedule you can follow.

i would like to try it, Jlo blogged about her training and it made me want to do it but i'm not a great swimmer so i'll have to get better on that part first.
1this is realy amazing they did it.its so tough.im so proud of jen
2I wonder how long the celebrity distances were ...
I have my first half ironman this weekend and I am GEEKED! next year: an Ironman!
3the distance is a sprint (1/2 mile, 18 miles, 5k)and the race is FLAT!
it annoys me that JLo is making such a big deal about this. she did it in 2:25 or some such time. And that is SLOW!! really slow.
runningesq: what race are you doing??
4I've done several 1/2's & I LOVE THEM!! They're my favorite distance. GOOD LUCK!!!
Caernavan --- it's the Savageman HIM (www.savagemantri.com) ... check out the bike profile: http://www.savagemantri.org/Bike_Course.html !! Eeeps!
2:25 is a horrendous time for a sprint, esp a flat one.
5I won't lie I am a triathlon wannabe, but I do the danskin women's tri sprint every year, which is good for beginners. Its women only and you can relay, so you get a lot of people out there for just a good time and the comraderie.
And quit being nasty about slow people...at least we aren't sitting on the couch!
6I'm sorry for being a snob, Danz... I should say that I don't see what the big effing deal is about JLo doing a sprint tri when she has enough money to get a sweet wetsuit, a coach, a good training plan, a good bike, etc.
And you are NOT a tri wanna be if you've actually done a tri -- you're a TRIATHLETE
7seriously, stop hating on her time.
When someone walks a marathon, they still completed one. JLo wasn't claiming to be fast and for crying out loud, she's clearly just doing it for fun. She's laughing after the swim and kissing her husband on her bike. Obviously, she's not Nicole DeBoom, okay?
And let us not forget that a few months ago, she gave birth to TWINS.
No one says you have to LIKE Jlo but don't hate on her for taking a while on her tri. She's not so much a ready made endurance athlete.

J.LO did it only for kids and charity and fun.it was the 1st time she did a Tri and also she just had twins for pete sake.GOT IT?
9all kudos in the world to her
i think that it's definitely something that's commendable that they participated - and we're forgetting that there were other celebs that took part as well. anyone who voluntarily does something like that should be really proud of themselves - and if it's to benefit a cause -then it's even better.
i think that j-lo looks fantastic there - it's hard to hid anything in a wet suit and she's looking to be in top form!
10I love that they're using their celebrity status to inspire others to stay healthy and fit while supporting a good cause. I would love to someday be able to complete a triathlon, but first I need to start with the small stuff!
