The 16-year-old Gabrielle Douglas won the individual all-around title at the team trials in early July. Although Gabby had some trouble on the balance beam during the Olympic team trials, her performance on the uneven bars (her signature event) and vault were stellar. Her nickname, Flying Squirrel, was inspired by the amount of air she gets during her release moves on the bars. Watching her tumble during her floor routine, she seemed to defy gravity. Her coach, Liang Chow, also trained Shawn Johnson.
Gabby will be competing in all four events in the team finals today in London! She will also represent the US in the individual all-around competition on Aug. 2.
