New reports are showing that a study from the University of Missouri-Columbia has found that all women were equally and negatively affected after viewing pictures of models in magazine ads for just three minutes. The negative effect applied to women regardless of their current weight or body image -- seeing the flawless beauties in print made even the most confident of women have a drop in their level of satisfaction with themselves.
Never undermine the impact of media ladies. These images that are (more times than not) computer generated to fit the societal ideal, are what is making us feel bad about ourselves. So, next time you're feeling down, think again before delving into your newest copy of Cosmo to escape, as it could do more hard than good. Instead, recruit a pal to cheer you up.

i subscribed to glamour magazine for a year because it was cheap. as soon as i read in an article "a woman cannot wear a mini skirt unless her legs are perfectly thin" or something to that effect, i threw out the remaining issues without reading them and didn't renew.
1So true. Just yesterday I sat with my girlfriends looking through a Vogue (April love your self issue) and a Self magazine. These two are directed at making us feel better about ourselves but I found myself saying "I really hate myself after I read these." And they agreed. The Vogue advertisements flash perfectly toned and thing women and Self's perfectly fit women acting out the workouts just puts me in a bad mood.
2it's the home magazines that make me feel bad. every meal is amazing, the furniture is perfect, the art work original and the craft projects look like professionals did them. i use to get a complex from martha stewart and someone pointed out that she had an entire staff coming up with ideas and then trying them out and perfecting them. i saw her make potato chips ones time, 6 to a baking sheet, for a dinner party. come on, for 6 people it would take all day to make enough chips and then that's all you have!
3^I agree with this, the home mags make me feel like my flat is fugly and disorganised. Maybe if I had tons of $$ I would be able to buy nice furniture but hey, I'm a student..
4I agree about the home magazines. I hate Cosmo, that magazine is horrible and the cover models are always airbrushed to death.
5I cut out pictures from mags and put them inside my cabinets and fridge...I am going to bust my diet, i want to mbe reminded of how i won't look so I will feel bad and put back whatever i was gonig to eat.

Why don't you wear the face you have when I am not around?
this is exactly why I stoped reading them. its not even about the skinny girls for me, but the clothes I dont have and the advice I dont ever actually listen to, which makes me feel bad. this site def gives me my fix.
7I like magazines but they make you think you need to buy stuff. After a few months away from magazines and tv I start to wonder, is there anything I should be buying?
8Actually, teen magazines are pretty okay. Only Teen Vogue makes me feel a little under the weather, because it's high fashion and everyone in it seems so perfect.
