It seems like I am in a never ending allergy cycle, where the hay fever of Spring blends almost seamlessly into ragweed season. My sinuses seem to be continually fighting pollen of one kind or another. The latest culprit, ragweed, starts blooming in mid-August and the pollen grains are so lightweight that they can travel up to distances of 400 miles. It doesn't take much of this tiny pollen to wreak havoc on your system. It causes classic allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny noses, swollen, itchy watery eyes so severe that it's hard to function normally.
Ragweed season runs through mid-October in most parts of the US and to see tips on how to deal with the misfortunes this tiny pollen delivers, just read more.
Nasal irrigation is a prescription free way to lessen the severity of sinus allergy symptoms. I am here to say that daily use of a neti pot can work wonders. - Avoid areas where ragweed plants thrive, such as ditches, roadsides, riverbanks, vacant lots, and the edges of wooded areas.
- Keep windows closed during ragweed season in order to prevent pollen from getting into your home. Use air conditioning, which cools, cleans and dries the air. The same goes for when you are driving; use the AC and keep your windows rolled up.
- Shower after you spend time outdoors to wash the pollen off.
Fit's Tips: With the power of the Internet at your fingertips, be sure to check the reports on pollen counts in your area.

1Oh, me too! Ragweed drives me nuts.
2oh my gosh! ahhh i'm soooo annoyed with this crap right now! I'm stuffed up, my eyes are running right along with my nose, and I can't stop sneezing! Zyrtec isn't even helping : ( boo allergies suck!
3No wonder! My allergies have been kicking my butt since last Thursday...Damn ragweed
4Ragweed is evil! Every year, without fail, I end up with a sinus infection that started as ragweed allergies. I decided to try the neti pot this year, and although not the most fun thing in the world, it has really helped!
5My fall season allergies just kicked in about 4 days ago... UGH! I wake up every morning to puffy, red and watery yet somehow feel-dry, eyes. I need to splash my eye with water then put my drops in 2x's daily. My sinus pressure is starting to kick in; I'm buying a Neti Pot this coming week; should help. I'm also going to start using my facial steamer. I hate taking sinus sprays (never fully work.)
6i remember when i still lived in the states, in chicago, the first day of my freshman year of college i had to go home bc i looked like my face was a jellyfish from all the snot, tears and swollen-ness. at that point i was on allergy shots for already 3 years....8 years later i moved to europe where there's a whole new colony of pollen and trees.... CRAP!
7Ragweed hates me. Like other posters, it typically turns into a sinus infection for me. Last year I discovered Quercetin, which has helped a bunch. And as painful as it was, breathing in steaming apple cider vinegar helps a bunch too. Those two things, along with my neti pot, are my weapons against ragweed.
