If you pass the occasional pill to your friends, you are not alone. According to a recent study published in The Journal of Women’s Health, sharing prescription drugs is common among young adults, especially 18- to 44-year-old women. The recent survey of 25,000 people found that more than one-third of the women polled shared prescription drugs with friends or took pills from their pals. The drugs included everything from allergy meds to pain pills. I'm definitely guilty of offering the occasional Allegra to friends who also take the drug, but how about you?

Haven't we all? Like when your friend's down to do a line and need a chaser, you oblige by offering up say a vicodin or darvacet to help the come-down:) It's just the right thing to do haha.
1It amazes me how common this is, even among my classmates in nursing school, who should know better!
2If drugs weren't so damn expensive, people wouldn't have to do this. If I have pills left and I paid out the rear for them, but don't need them anymore, of course I would put them to good use and share. It's too easy to get drugs from the doctor too.
3yea..i have...my mom used to take the same sleeping pill i used to take at one time. i only took them once in a while, while she took one almost nightly, mine were covered by insurance, she didn't have insurance. so i would give her some of mine.
4My best friend had a toothache last night, so I gave her 3 left over Tylenol w/codeine from when my husband had his last toothache. Her dentist appointment is Thursday to get the tooth pulled. I don't feel bad at all. Her husband called me last night to see if I had anything to help her out w/their toddler just'a screaming in the background... So I sent those tablets over (told him to tell her just take 1/2 at first..) with a tube of Orajel and offered to watch the baby. I'd hope she'd do the same for me. She text me around 10PM to thank me and said she owed me. I told her no she didn't.
Now, I won't go giving my medicine out to a crack-head on the street.. but for family and friends-like-family - totally. My mother and I shared meds too ..we just don't abuse the idea.
5Yeah, I do. But not in a, "oh, you're feeling ___? I've got just the thing for that!" sort of way. My husband and I shared Malaria medication on our honeymoon, for example, because I got to the pharmacy after it closed, etc.
6Every year we get reports of the number of prescription drug induced deaths. However, people still seem to think that are without dangers and feel free to share them with friends despite neithers true knowledge about the medication. When will we learn?
7I will if it is a pain killer for an extreme situation. However I won't with most anything else. Especially ANTIBIOTICS!! There is way too much antibiotic abuse in my humble opinion.
8I think painkillers & some mood altering drugs are the most common things people share. I doubt anyone is passing around the birth control or blood pressure medicine though...
I don't have prescriptions for anything (besides Yasmin which I wouldn't share, obviously), but if I did and someone needed it I'd probably offer. Even when I do offer someone something like Aleve for a headache they usually say no anyways.
My mom has given me painkillers plenty of times, and she gave my husband some Xanax for his first plane trip because he was fairly anxious about it. I don't think sharing among family is bad, especially when the substance isn't something really hardcore like morphine.
9No, never have never will.
10I have had prescription drugs passed to me, but nothing serious. After that I politely refused any offers. Sharing among family is okay, but sharing among friends should be cautioned. Our body chemistry can be different from a friend's.
11I used to share my Zyrtec with my boyfriend but I don't feel bad since it's not even prescription anymore. I also share my prescription pimple cream with him but I don't feel bad about that either.
12My mom shared her painkiller with me. I guess I might share depending on the drug and the person, but it's not even an issue since I have no prescriptions anyone would want.
13My sister and I take the same medicine, same dosage, etc. She's forgotten to get her refill before the pharmacy closes, so I've given her a few of mine to tide her over until the pharmacy opens again.
Other than that, I wouldn't do it. I'm not a doctor, so I shouldnt be handing out prescriptions to people. I tend to carry ibuprofen in my purse, so I'll give that to someone, but only if they ask if I've got any.
14I always finish all of mine myself.
15My fiance and I have the same rescue inhaler, and since I carry mine and he doesn't, he's had to use mine before. I wouldn't do this with any other medicine, though.
16No, never. That's one thing that really freaks me out.
17Painkillers, yes... not a problem. They are available over the counter.
18I would never share antibtiotics though, ever!
i had them only once in my life.
19Yes, I know it's terrible, but my mom gives me some of her stuff when she feels it will help me, i.e. pain meds. I won't take her sleeping pills, which she's offered frequently, because I don't know how it would interact with my own prescriptions.
20it's technically illegal, no?
21If the person is family or a close friend - and ONLY if they've taken it before - I'll share if they're in need. Not pain killers and stuff, but if my boyfriend forgets to refill his Zyrtec, I'll share!
22If the person is in need, I ask them what scrips they're on. I ten try to find an OTC option. After that, assuming no alternative, I go to my copy of the Physician's Desk Reference, and I check the maker's website for interactions. Then, MAYBE, I'll give them a dose. I'm super careful though, because the only scrips I have are specifically for me, and they're not minor meds.
That said, when I had Zyrtec and Mom ran out, I'd give her one. We were on the exact same dose. However, she's asked for my Ambien before, and I've said no.
23seriously prescription meds? not a chance. I keep paracetomol (sp?), asprin and ibuprofen in my purse, and sometimes will give one of the engineers at work one for a headache, but thats as far as it goes!
Whats Allegra?
