One of the random benefits of having house guests is getting to play with the toys they accidentally leave behind. My cousin's fiancé is working on his upper body so he can wow us all at their upcoming wedding. One of the tools in his traveling fitness arsenal is the Perfect Pushup ($40). His forgetfulness was my chance to try this "as seen on TV" gizmo, which meant I did many reps of push-ups.

By gripping the handles, the Perfect Pushup definitely protects your wrists. Since you are also slightly elevated off the ground, you work your center in a different way too and this makes the push-up seem more challenging. Since the discs rotate, you can twist your shoulder joints you press back up to the plank, but trying to keep the discs still emphasizes the core engagement of the push-up. I liked using them, but for $40 bucks (plus shipping and handling) I think I will stick all my push-up variations and wrist stretches. What about you?

not 40..
but also i've seen other ones for less

especially if you don't have free weights or a bench
1My husband and I have been considering getting these for a long time but weren't sure just how useful they'd be, thanks for the review!
2i saw the infomercial for these, and i had to laugh cause i'm not sure that they make sense - but i guess if you've seen them and tried them, you could prove my mindset to be wrong.
3It does seem like a rip off.
4My mom got them at Target for $19 and she says they really work. It's so funny to be 25 and have a 'hot mom'
5I busted out some push ups in front of my BFF when I was visiting her a few weeks ago. She immediately suggested buying these for me for my birthday. I laughed... but now am reconsidering. My husband has bad wrists and I smoke him when we do head to head push ups. I wonder if these could help him? Thanks for reviewing these.
6My wrists hurt soo much doing push-ups that I would try these. But if you didn't have that problem, I could totally see why it would seem so useless!
7I don't get it...why wouldn't you just use a pair of dumbbells and grab onto those while you do pushups? It looks like it'd be about the same thing and it'd be WAY cheaper.
8They got me back to doing push ups after suffering a year from carpal tunnel syndrome. I sent a pair to my mom and dad (in their 70s) and cautioned them to start on a wall (can't do that with weights!) Bought mine at a Big Lots for $10 but I've seen them at Walgreens, Walmart. They also double for stability when stretching, yoga, pilates, instead of blocks. Love 'em.
9I loved these at first. The Perfect Pushup improved the appearance of my arms more than any strength training or resistance band workouts I have ever done. However, the more I used them the more I had problems with my shoulders. I would have a dull sort of stinging pain in my shoulders the day after and when I would lift light weights up to a certain height there would be cracking noises in my shoulders. I have quit using the Perfect Pushup and the side effects have been decreasing. I am going to stick to wrist stretches and knee pushups & other variations like this article has suggested.
10I own a pair of the perfect push ups and i absolutely love them. I have been working out for 4 years now and have gained a lot of strength and size from free weight workouts. I am 25 years old, 6 foot tall and 240 lbs at about 20% body fat. I can bench 325lbs and I rarely ever get sore muscles from working out anymore. I bought my perfect push ups because standard push ups hurt my wrist do to a wrist injury (broken wrist) I suffered playing soccer back when I Was in high school in 1998. the perfect pushups really take the strain off of my wrists and give me a great workout. I tried out the incline push ups where you put your feet on a chair and do your push ups and I was even more impressed. I only did 20 of the incline push ups just to test them out but the next day my chest was sore, the good kind of sore that you want to feel after a work out(I was amazed). I bought the perfect push ups when they first came out for 40 dollars and thought that 40 dollars was a good deal. Now that you can get them from 10-20 dollars I feel that it is a great buy and a must have for anyone considering buying them. Along with being easier on the wrist, it is also easier on my shoulder joints, I assume it has to do with the rotation of your arms during the push ups. One final note to anyone considering purchasing the perfect push ups, star slow and learn your limits. If you push too fast and too hard too soon, you can end up hurting yourself with this and any other exercise you may try no matter how low impact it may be on your joints. even though this is off topic I feel that anyone here looking up the perfect push up is probably looking into the perfect pull up also, so i wanted to make a quick note. The perfect pull up gives you a pretty good workout but if you are a wide guy, Like me, you should save your money unless you have a wide door way to hang it in. I have mine hung in my largest doorway and my elbows hit the door frame so I do not use it for pull ups, but I do use it for rows. Anyway, sorry for making this so long but I wanted everyone to get a get review from someone who actually uses the product since that is why people have come here. I hope everyone finds this helpful.
