Women's Gymnastics: Silver and Gold!

Last night seemed like a redemption match, gymnastics styles. The top three were all amazing, but Nastia Liukin was the best in the all-around competition. She gracefully stepped out from behind Shawn Johnson's athletic shadow and was lovely on the beam as well as the other three elements: uneven bars, floor, and vault. The Chinese gymnast Yilin Yang took the bronze.

On her winning a gold medal Nastia said: "I can't believe it still. I worked so hard for many years for this, I don't know what to say. I couldn't have been here without my parents."

Shawn was gracious about winning silver medal and explained, "It's been a long road, I feel like the baby of the group, to come out with silver is an amazing experience."

Congrats to all the gymnasts and a thank you for creating a night of exciting competition.

That was a great event. I stayed up way too late watching, but it was totally worth it.

The article about this on SI used that god awful 5th picture from Nastia's bars dismount instead of the hundreds of other stunning pictures from last night. How could they do that to such a beautiful gymnast?

And you can totally tell her mother was a rhythmic gymnast. Such gorgeous lines! I'm so happy for her!!

I'm pretty sure we'll see Shawn Johnson again in London. She'll only be 20, which is totally feasible. I'm okay with her taking the silver because she'll get another shot.

I loved watching this last night...they both did so well, and I loved how gracious they were with each other!

And Nastia moved to the US when she was 2 years old...how is she selling out by competing on the American team???

I kind of wish that Shawn had won, but Nastia was great and didn't make any of the little mistakes that have let Shawn slip by.

I am so bummed, I totally fell asleep after the first two rotations! I plan to watch the replay tonight even though I obviously already know the results.

It's awesome that these girls pulled it out. The things they can do just boggles that mind.

That said I realized last night that I hate gymnastics as a sport. I am not saying it is not insanely tough or amazing to watch, but I just get so ANGRY at the judges. I decided I can't watch sports that aren't determined by a clock or an impartial score (not a judge-generate score). It's too political, subjective and bias. Blech!

i watched the competition last night and there was so much talk about how the scores for the US Girls were so much lower than expected. the routines were really great that they did - with minor mistakes - and yet many other gymnasts got higher scores for lower difficulty and great mistakes. it's interesting how that stuff works out huh?

it was amazing to see both americans do so well - and shawn is young - she can still make the team next time around and get her own gold!

Truly a well deserved win. Both US girls were wonderful and, though I paid for it today, I'm glad I stayed up to watch.

I just knew Shawn was going to win, but I happy that a U.S. girl (kinda) won. Repping my country country to the fullest.

I can't stand the french cut on their leotards. I keep staring at their crotch or ass cheeks. I think it's a little sexist and weird to have those young girls doing back flips and cartwheels in those outfits. They need something that at least covers their whole ass.

Nastia Liuken is gorgeous! and she is so graceful, unlike stubby shawn johnson, who can only tunble. I can't believe Nastia Liuken only got bronze on the women's floor routine, she was wonderful and beautiful in her floor routine, and it was so artistic and a lot like dance. I wish shawn johnson would never win any medals because she has no grace or beauty.

I'm so happy Nastia won! I love her!

I think Shawn is adorable, but really overrated.
