I just introduced my girls to the joys of sugar-free gum, and boy, do they love it. Their excitement is infectious and I have started noticing how many people chew gum at the gym. Having had the dangers of chewing gum while running drilled into my head at various sports practices in my youth, I just can't fathom chewing gum on a treadmill. Plus I breathe through my mouth and can just imagine the gum flying across the room. How about you . . .

I said never, but not cause it's dangerous. Which I'm sure it may well be. It's just cause it's never crossed my mind to chew gum at the gym...
I always chew gum at the gym. If I didn't, I'd have to drink consistently. Gum keeps my mouth from drying out. Then I can just worry about drinking every 20mins or so.
I'm not sure WHY I do it, but yes, I always chew gum while working out. Then again, I am almost always chewing gum anyways.
I've never heard of chewing gum at the gym. I'd totally choke on it if I was on the treadmill so I would not try it. I heard this freaky story about someone who had gum lodged in their throat so CPR wouldn't work, and so I always keep that in mind. In fact, I've stopped chewing gum in the car in case I get in an accident. Yeaaah I think I have anxiety issues or something.
i do chew gum while i'm working out - for me it keeps my mouth moist and i don't have to stop to get a drink of water. i find that i'm also able to 'grit' through some tougher workouts if i have something to bite down on - aka the gum. i know that there are dangers in chewing it but i think that based on the types of workouts that i do, it's relatively safe.
I chew gum when I work out. It keeps me focused and determined. Not that the gum has magical powers or anything
but when I chew gum, I seem to get a lot more done.
i read a men's health magazine article many years ago how the smell of peppermint while you're working out makes your workouts feel less strenuous, so i chew gym while running. plus, i don't like that gross coating that develops during aerobic exercise. gym keeps the saliva flowing and reduces it, for me anyhow.
Never, I remember my entire soccer team getting lectured by our coach on that subject. It must've really made an impression!
I just chew it before I start my workout, pre-workout drink can be a little gross. I also I have a thick lip gloss that kinda tastes like that gum and I lick my lips when I get nothing taste in my mouth. I chew Stride Forever Fruit and Victoria Secret's Passion Fruit lip gloss. Also, whenever I put the lip gloss on when I'm dreading to workout it picks me up and gets me into the right mindset!
I've never done it and I haven't noticed people doing it before. It seems like such a strange thing to do! I think I might choke on my gum, or at least end up biting my tongue/cheek..
I used to teach group exercise classes where we weren't allowed to chew gum during class. It was totally understandable because its so distracting and annoying when all you hear is someone chomping through the mic. After that, I never got back into the habit. I have enough trouble not tripping on the treadmill:)
Nahhh.. But then I never chew gum. LOL and I can't hardly stand to look at anyone who is chewing gum... it's just a pet peeve of mine. Most (and yes i can say most from years of observation) people chew gum in an awful manner. Disgusting.
I never chew gum. I think it's an unhealthy habit.
I chew gum sometimes, mostly for the reason that other people noted, to keep my mouth from getting dry & icky. How is it dangerous? I've never once heard of anyone having a gum related accident while exercising. Or doing anything else, for that matter.
I pretty much chew gum from the min I wake up till the min I go to bed. I used to have a lot of over eating issues though so this is part of the way Ive stopped doing that. Its worth the risk for me I guess
Sometimes. This evening, I was chewing gum when I attended a dance studio.
I never chew gum. TMJ problems.
never!
I don't typically chew gum when I work out, but if I happen to be chewing a piece, I'll chew it during my workout to keep my mouth moist.
I hate gum
I think chewing gum in a gym is extraordinarily rude, especially when you are on a cardio machine where other people get "stuck" next to you.
Nobody wants to hear you or smell your gum breath.
