Americans Are Drinking Less Beer — How About You?

In a recent study conducted over a 50-year span, scientists discovered that people's drinking habits have changed in the US. According to the new study published in the American Journal of Medicine, Americans drink less beer and more wine. I guess they've realized that beer isn't chock full of beneficial antioxidants like wine. It was also reported that hard liquor use hasn't really changed, but more people said they don't drink at all. Overall, the study found that people born later in the 20th century are drinking more moderately than people born earlier.

People are beginning to see that there are horrible health issues associated with heavy alcohol consumption (such as breast cancer), and since drinking a little alcohol has actually been shown to improve cardiovascular health and may fight aging, people are adopting healthier drinking habits.

I'm ready to conduct a little study of my own now. When it comes to alcohol consumption . . .

I really enjoy a nice glass of wine when I'm out to eat or a nice relaxing day at home with the bf. Beer is a nice at bar, but I try to stay away from the hard stuff unless we are celebrating.

I've really tried to cut down on beer. I drink wine on weeknights and beer/liquor/wine on the weekends.

I've barely had alcohol at all since I've been of legal age and on the rare occasions I ever have anything it's more likely to be wine.

Martinis all the way for me!
And the occasional glass of wine is good, too!

Much to my mom's dismay, I like liquor and beer.

What I drink really depends on what I'm doing and where--in the clubs, it's all about the tequila shot, but at home or dinner, wine or beer would be my choice. Cocktails and mixed drinks have too many calories and give me headaches.

Yes, I know beer has calories too, but a glass of some good beer is worth the calories. A sugary cocktail is not (to me at least).

Beer is my favorite all time drink, but I rarely drink it at all anymore due to the calories. (so sad.) it's very easy to gain weight having a beer or two every day after work. I try to stick to wine or vodka/soda.

I don't ever drink. I've realized I'm slightly allergic--My body is incapable of digesting it, so it leaves me with an upset stomach, even after one drink.

Also, I'm too sensitive to the taste of alcohol to enjoy a beer or a wine--wine reminds me of a cocktail with too much liquor, and beer is too bitter. I wish I enjoyed wine, but...I can't force myself.

Usually beer or wine. I'll have an occasional gin & tonic or sidecar, when the mood strikes.

I'm pretty sure Wisconsin didn't get the memo about beer consumption going down...everyone here drinks beer pretty much exclusively. I personally usually drink vodka mixers, but I enjoy a good beer once in a while. I'm not a wine person though...it just doesn't really appeal to me all that much.

In the US of A, I'm too young to drink, but since I spend my school year in the EU, I'm legally allowed to. I don't ever drink beer (okay, except for when I'm in Spain, and then I make an exception for some Cruzcampo, but that's not because I like the taste), and my taste runs to sweet, light wines and fruity mixed drinks. Because the actual taste of alcohol is kind of gross. Hard liquor isn't my thing. Sangría, though... *sigh*

Wine or cocktails for me (usually a vodka gimlet, mmm). I've had to stop drinking beer because I had to go on a gluten free diet. :\ I miss it!

I hate beer, I can't stand the taste. Wine and liquor is the only way to go for me! But of course all of those health issues that can occur after the first glass of wine suck, but it's just so good I can't stop at one!

I like a good tasting import beer once in a while (i.e. Amstel Light, Heineken Light) but my heart lies with wine. I love cabernets...once in a while a good chardonnay. However, when I go out to more of a loungey place I will definitely go for a good martini.
