There is a lot of buzz surrounding our kids and what they eat at school, since most of us agree that tater-tots are not in fact a vegetable. Wouldn't it be great if we could just get our kids to eat more fruit by doing something as simple as asking them a question?
Turns out there is and it's as simple as this: Want fruit? Yup! New research from Yale University has found that when cafeteria workers asked elementary school children if they wanted fruit or juice with their lunch, the children usually took one or the other and most of the children actually ate it.
It seems like this theory can be applied to getting kids to eat more healthfully at home as well. Don't have kids? You could even apply this idea to getting yourself to eat more fruits and veggies too. For example, if I have fruits and veggies readily available, I'll eat them because they are there. When you're feeling snack-y, ask yourself, "Want fruit?" Chances are you will and having it readily available for yourself will further increase the likelihood you'll actually eat some.
Fit's Tip: How many fruits and veggies do you eat in a day? Take the poll. Want to really increase your chances of upping you and your kids fruit and veggie intake? Check out these tips on getting more in your diet.

most kids actually love fruit! its more of, they like a variety. feed them apples and oranges everyday and they'd be turned off fo'sho!
1my g6 actually doesn't like fruit much! Weird, huh? I wonder if a lot if she has OAS like I do, but she doesn't mention symptoms, just doesn't like when things are sour.
Since I have that, I can only eat (most of the time) bananas, melons and citrus fresh. My new favorite way to get fruit in is with canned mandarin oranges (have to rinse them because they only come in syrup), pinapple chunks (in juice) and a few maraschino cherries mixed together. MUCH better than the canned fruit salad, cheap, and not a lot of work. Sometimes I cut up bananas and (after adding a little lemon juice to them) add them in.
I also eat natural applesauce a lot. It's hard to keep variety with fruit when you can hardly eat it!

3Too right, my girls like a variety and really don't like having the same fruit or food 2 days in a row.
Butrfly4404 - What is OAS? I have never heard of it and I am curious to know what it is since it seems like it interferes with your and your daughters fruit intake.
4Fit - It's Oral Allergy Syndrome. I talked a little bit about it here. And Wiki has something about it here.
I'm not entirely sure if it affects The Girl - she's not my biological, so it's not that she got it from me. I just wonder sometimes because I've never known a kid who doesn't like strawberries! She's never reacted like I do, though, which is really good. (Can range from a tickling throat to full-on rash all over!)
5scratch i am AWFUL with kids most times, but i was judging from how I would react myself hehe. my gran used to FORCEFEED me mashed carrots when i was teeny cos she was convinced it would give me rosy cheeks when i "grow up"
NAH UH!! dont see no rosy cheeks!
LOL!
6ooo butrfly that must stink! imagine not being able to eat strawberries, i'd be so upset!
hmm, maybe The Girl is just influenced by you? i dunno, i loved berries as a kid and cant imagine anyone not like it too!
