How we protect our skin is one of the biggest ways to keep from getting skin cancer, but something we don't have much control over is a contributing factor too: Where you live. Not only do latitude and longitude play a role, but cultural norms do as well. For example, it's still quite acceptable (and coveted) to want to be tan in the United States whereas many folks in Asia actually associate a tan with the lower class. Forbes did the research and figured out the worst places to live (or be from) in terms of skin cancer incidence. Here are the top five regions with the greatest per-capita skin cancer ratios:
- North America, Cuba
- Eastern Europe
- Europe
- Australia, Asia Pacific and East Asia
- Eastern Europe and Central Asia

haha, what a silly list. Basically, everywhere! Although I think it's slightly curious Africa's no where on the list? Seems like their sun would be killer
1I'm surprised South Africa isn't on that list, according to our Cancer Association "South Africa has the second highest incidence of skin cancer in the world after Australia."
2I'm in North America and had melanoma a few years ago.
3Its weird how skin cancer seems to have become a huge issue overnight.
4So, everywhere? not really helpful, in my opinion. North America includes Mexico, Canada, and the US- big variation there. I'm pretty sure skin cancer rates are fairly low in the northern parts of the continent.

5I agree, this list is a little silly. WHy not just say "THE WORLD" and really, what does this mean? everywhere/one is at risk? Great that helps narrow it down
6so, is Eastern Europe the second or the fifth highest area? why is it on the list twice.
Unfortunately, I contributed to my region being #1 on the list.
