Given that the 2008 Summer Olympics are being held in Beijing, most of us will probably be watching this year's festivities on TV. But when the games took place in Atlanta in 1996, I knew a lot of people who attended at least a few events, if not many. Have you ever been lucky enough to check out some Olympic action live and in person? If so, what events did you catch, and what was it like?
Like most people, I wouldn't mind checking out some of the gymnastics, and soccer also seems like it would also be fun to watch. If you've never been an Olympics spectator, what sport would you want to get tickets to if you could?

Stone Island
Vila
HTC
Who would I have to bang to get swimming tickets?
1I have! Salt Lake City Winter Olympics 2002- I saw some alpine skiing and also the men's figure skating finals and the pairs figure skating finals. It was one of the most awesome things I've done- you really feel the excitement and the competitiveness, for skiing you sit at the bottom of the course where they cross the finish line and you get to see them take of their skis and talk to reporters and we were really close. Figure skating was at the Delta Center and we had pretty far up seats which was good for watching the whole rink- I mean if you don't like skating it might not be that exciting, but the men's triple and quadruple jumps were pretty amazing. Also the Olympic Village and stuff is really fun too! You see at lot of athletes out and about there and also at the "country" houses- each nation in the games has it's own "rendez-vous" spot, many were like restaurants or rented space and you could meet really cool people there.
2I was only 4, but I went to the 1984 woman's track and field in LA....it was the first woman's marathon.
3i would love to watch swim, track & field or gymnastics. those are the things that i watch on tv every time, so it'd be fun to see them in person.
4I will be in Beijing! I got tickets to a few of the gymnastics events (no luck with swimming).
I also went to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino...I had an awesome time, we got to see speedskating and short-track speedskating (including the amazing Apolo Anton Ohno!).
Attending the Olympics Games is amazing and I definitely recommend it if you get the chance! You get to meet so many people from around the world, the adrenaline/excitement in the air during the events is beyond description, the sense of the whole world being brought together for this one event, and the national pride of each country is truly something to experience...it's magical!
See you at the Olympics!
5I saw the 1996 (Atlanta) baseball event. I was about three though.
6During the 1984 LA Olympics the bike race went through a street about a block from my house in Mission Viejo, CA.
7I really want to go when the Olympics are in Vancouver in 2010! I'd love to see figure skating, but I'm not sure how realistic that is ticket-wise.
8I went to softball and baseball in 1996 in Atlanta!!
9I WISH, but I've never been to any events. Maybe in the future if they are held somewhere nearby, I'd go.
10I am going to the Olympics this year as well!!! SUPER EXCITED! =) Can ya tell?
I am going to a couple of gymnastics and track and field events, one volleyball, one boxing, and one badminton. Totally random mix of events, but that's the lottery process! This will be my first Olympics. It is special to me because it is held in my hometown!
11if you count the Olympic Trials, then yes. The 2008 Olympic Track and Field trials were on my college campus - it was hard to avoid them. Granted I didn't go to any of the events with a ticket, but I stood around and watched some through the gate..
12My sister and I went to the gymnastics Trials this year in Philadelphia. We had second row tickets and got Mary Lou Retton's autograph! Incredible!!!
13I went to the 2004 Olympic swim trials in Long Beach, CA because I had a friend who was competing in the 400-meter breast stroke. Too bad he didn't make it!
14When it comes to world sport events I am World Cup Futbol fan through and through. However I was really young when the Olympics were in L. A. My dad took me to the women marathon's course and had already been pumping Joan Benoit up to me. It was awesome, free, and memorable. It was inspiring to see the field of them all gallop past me. They were iconic like giants (I was really little).
15friggin right, in atlanta in 1996 i saw volleyball, baseball, cycling, and running
i plan on hitting vancouver in 2010 too
16loveyoumeanit - baseball, me too!
