I'm sure you've all heard about how the live active cultures in yogurt are excellent for your digestive tract. If you have a hard time fitting in a cup of yogurt into your diets everyday or if you just don't eat dairy products, then Acidophilus Pearls, a type of probiotic supplement, were made for you then. It offers the benefits of acidophilus without the calories, cholesterol, sugars, or lactose found in yogurt. If you have tummy troubles, taking one capsule a day can help alleviate occasional gas and constipation plus symptoms of lactose intolerance. Plus these Pearls don't need to be refrigerated like other probiotic pills — and they even made the list of the best probiotics for your money.

When it comes to your belly, probiotics assist the body's naturally occurring gut flora (useful microorganisms that live in the digestive tract) that often get out of whack because of the foods we eat, and they help maintain a balance of healthy bacteria. Not only that but they also support your immune system and benefit your skin. Taking probiotics can also reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, improve mineral absorption, prevent yeast infections, and improve symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Colitis. Wow. All I know is that when I take them, I feel so much better.
Who knew they did all that. Do any of you take Acidophilus Pearls or another kind of probiotic?

Acidophilus is great when you're feeling uncomfortable down below... take it immediately upon feeling discomfort and avoid an infection
1Wow! Fit, do you know if any stores carry these?
2Wow! I really need these!
3I take these. They are great. I buy them at the Vitamin Shoppe.
4Are these meant to be taken on a daily basis the way you might take a multivitamin, or only when you have stomach discomfort?
I'm vegan so my diet has enormous amounts of fiber, and sometimes I get pretty bloated from it. If these stopped that, it would be amazingggg.
5Oh yay! I can never have yogurt b/c I have a bad intolerance to lactose, and these are perfect! So picking them up today!
6YES FIT !!! I've taken probiotcs for about a year now (My Naturopathic DR recommended it along with B-complex vitmains, fish oil capsules and warm water with lemon)and I feel amazing (no longer gasy/bloated/better bowels
) plus I've cut out a lot of food that causes
indigestion it works especially if you're on "the pill" which depletes good stomach bacteria
7I often take acidophilus. I prefer liquid acidophilus, I always get it at GNC.
8i'm favoriting this!
9I HATE yogurt and the lactose intolerance I had as a child is starting to rear it's ugly head again. This is great!
10It's nice that these don't have to be refrigerated. I used to use the kind that had to stay cold, and it was always a trial to take them on vacations or something since I wasn't sure how to keep them cold for that long.
11Thanks, Rosa and JKat! I'm running out to get some today!!
12i take one of these a day. i recently read that its best to take it on an empty stomach...not sure why tho.
13One of my friends is a microbiologist and he told me not to waste my money on probiotics or multivitamins because if you eat the right foods then this shouldn't be an issue anyway...
14I take Kefir.
15i do yogurt and kefir too...is that enough?
16fluffyhelen--your friend's right. I'm also a microbiologist and I'll let you in on a secret: If you eat enough fruits and veggies and just plain whole foods in general, the fiber in them promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in your gut (sometimes it's called prebiotic fiber), so you shouldn't need an Acidophilus supplement. So yeah, I won't be buying these...big ol' waste of money.
17I've also studied microbiology and learned that most probiotics in pill form don't work because the bacteria die in pill form! Better to eat yogurt, where there's enough nutrients for the bacteria to stay alive.
18Yes Afry but not all of us can eat yogurt or dairy...or soy...or anything with whey:) Which cuts out on so many things! And even eating a diet rich in fiber doesn't help for all of us either, trust me I know!! I'm ridiculously healthy but my stomach just doesn't seem to fit my body! I think I got a lemon lol. So I got these and I'm going to see how they work, hell I'll try anything at this point.
Really interested in seeing how the bloating will help b/c I'm having to load creatine for the week while I start my new HIT workout, and I'm uber excited about it!!
19Yeah I'm with Berlin. I am pre-med, and while a healthy diet is always the first option, there are always exceptions to the rules. Like the article says, it can help alleviate symptoms of some pretty uncomfortable and life-altering conditions, for which just a healthy diet doesn't do the trick. Good idea to be a little skeptical, but don't throw it out the door entirely. If it works for someone, the option should always be available. Much better alternative to damaging/addicting laxatives, and acid-reducers which slow and inhibit digestion and absorption of nutrients.
20I recently had a bad case of C. Diff. and went to the E.R. The doctors prescribed an anti-biotic called Flagyl, which is commonly used to treat C. Diff. I took it for 14 days and the C. Diff. appeared to be gone. About two weeks later it was back with a vengeance. I remembered reading about using pro-biotics to treat C. Diff... acidophilus, in particular, so I bought some acidophilus "pearls" (not the brand shown above). It said take one per day on the box, but that was for normal use and I had C. Diff., so I doubled up (two per day) and three days later all symptoms were gone.
This stuff is FAR from a waste of money... I personally witnessed it successfully treat a very nasty case of C. Diff. in half the time the most widely used anti-biotic did... without recurrence.
Now I take one per day and feel great.
GREAT STUFF!
