The other day I was talking with nancita about how we tend to follow similar health patterns as our moms and sisters — especially when it comes to weight, pregnancy, and health issues big and small. My older sister is always telling my what's going on with her health because she knows it could be a concern for me later in life. I'm curious about you guys on this one. Do you find that your health tends to mimic that of your family members?

Crave Maternity
Psssy
Cheer
Gosh I hope not!!
1My sister, cousin and I all learned that in one five year period, we had each been diagnosed with the same two autoimmune disorders. We hadn't seen each other often nor had we discussed the issues leading to the diagnoses. Treatment and responses vary widely. But, we are the only three in a generational group of about 20 with the conditions.
2my mom, my sister and i all have very similar periods, and we've all had kidney stones (my sister and i on a fairly regular basis- my mom just once.)
3I'm not sure yet. I hope my health is more like my dads though because my mom had endometriosis. So far I'm good, I just hope it stays that way.
4I wish I was as skinny as my mom! She had healthy pregnancies, though developed a major allergy to aspirin after her first. I really hope I do not inherit that allergy... it has been scary.
In terms of weight gain, etc my sisters and I are very similar.
5Thanks for the shout out Fit. Whenever I'm having some kind of health problem that seems really weird or worrisome, I will mention it to my mom and she's often like "Oh yeah, I had a lot of that when I was your age, but it went away," or "that's nothing to worry about, I had that...etc." It's very reassuring! Of course, it's not reassuring when more serious things get passed down, but at least you know more what to expect.
6My issues tend to mimic my mothers. My sister has some other health problems that have no lineage to either sides of my family.
7nope. we are totally different.. it maybe because i am the only one in my family who works out and stays active
8I was adopted so I don't have the same genealogy as the rest of my family. I am also the only one who works out on a semi-regular basis. I'm pretty much alone with the health problems with the exception of my son who seems to follow suit.
9No, thank goodness. I think it's because I look after my health. I eat very healthy, and exercise on a regular basis.
My family has some serious medical issues. I think they're as a result of their lifestyles.
10A lot of my mom's family have conditions that could have totally been prevented by taking care of themselves and I don't seem to have many of those problems. My mom and sister and I all have a genetic clotting disorder that can causes us to not form scabs as quickly (we have deformed platelets that don't clot as readily), but it's not very serious...we bruise more easily, I guess, but nothing major.
11My mother and I pretty much eat the same things (not at the same times and all that jazz though) but we do limit our diets to lean protein & vegetables only - we get "fruit" through green powders & supplements & we takes LOADS of vitamins!!
12My sister tries to follow our lead but falls off the bandwagon every so often because she does not have as good of willpower as my mother and me...
My brother & father eat anything & everything but they typically gravitate to unhealthy foods that they make like mashed potatoes with fresh cheese or pork ribs smothered in olive oil or something fancy - packaged foods don't really exist in their lives except for the occasional tortilla chip or chocolate bar
