When I head out into the hot weather to work out, I discovered an easy trick for staying cool. It works so well that I do it before heading out for a run, bike ride, or hike. I simply stand over the sink and drench my hair with water. When it's completely soaked and dripping, I wrap it in a bun. As I run, the breeze on my wet head keeps me cool. It is quite a pleasant sensation. Try it the next time you head out in the heat.

I've got to try this! My head is so soaked by the time I finish running anyway that it won't matter if I start out looking like a drowned rat.
I heard wetting your hair before you get in the pool is also good for protecting it from chlorine. A hair dresser told me that if your hair is already full of water, it won't drink up any of the harmful chemicals in the pool.
The only think to be careful of is breakage. Your hair is more fragile when it's wet....
Yeah, I dont know if that is the best for your hair, exposing it to heat and sunlight while it is wet and in a bun.
Won't you get sick doing that?
I don't think I would want to do that especially since my hair can get big and pouffy if I let it dry like that and therefore I will have a bad hair day the next day.
what a wonderful way to get meningitis.
While I'm not sure how this is going to cause a person to get meningitis, I have tried this on several occasions and really enjoy it. Since I have long dark hair, my head heats up really fast outdoors. I was just on a climbing trip and a quick head dip into the river felt AMAZING and so refreshing in the middle of the afternoon while we were traveling between crags. You do need to be careful about shocking your body, but I think it's great.
Great tip for these extra hot summer days. Thanks!
This tip is obviously NOT for everyone. If I did this I wouldnt have any hair left by the end of the month.
doing this can't get you sick or give you meningitis. you have to have a bacteria or a virus to be able to get either.
Great tip! Thanks!
when my hair is wet, it makes me sweat more(which i usually dont need any help with). many times gone to the gym with wet hair and its miserable. dry hair absorbs sweat better, otherwise, its dripping everywhere=yuck!
I've been sort of doing that for years. Lol. But I put in a bit of conditioner and add braids first.
I think that would make my head itch...like wearing it in a cap when you run. Maybe it's just me... my scalp is dry sometimes. Dang the curly hair!
I use a fan when I'm on my elliptical machine and it blows a nice breeze on me during my workout and cools me off while I sweat. It feels great.
I've tried this and it seemed to keep me a lot cooler. Since it gets so hot here though, I think I'm going to have to wait a couple of months before I resume my evening walks I love so much. It is a lot cooler in the mornings though.
Why would you get sick/meningitis if you had wet hair in hot weather? And how is it any different than swimming then getting out and walking around? I do this a lot and it feels great!
great tip!
