In making the transition from playing Jane Austen to super agent/action hero, Anne Hathaway decided to buff up. She told Self that she wanted her character, Agent 99, to have muscles and curves.
After wrapping the movie, Hathaway was inspired by her tough character to take a self-defense class. Not wanting to play the victim literally, she learned how to take care of herself if someone attacked her. I'd say she has made a 180-degree turn, with a round house kick, since her days of playing princesses.
How about you . . .

I took a RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) course in college. One of the best experiences of my life. It was very empowering, knowing that I could take care of myself if someone tried to take advantage of me. I'd recommend it to anyone.
1I did the same course mentioned above by CreateMagic and am so glad I had the opportunity. I would highly recommend it to others, male or female.
2I did martial arts, kickboxing, and boxing for years. I definitely believe all women should take one, but I caution anyone against taking a class and thinking they can take care of themselves...the best thing is to avoid ever getting in a situation where you need self defense.
Too many people take one course or take cardio kickboxing and think they can defend themselves against a man who is twice their size. I've sparred men much bigger than I--it's more intimidating than you might think when you've never done it. Even an average-sized guy can throw a very hard punch.
It's not that I don't think self defense classes are a good idea, I just also see the flipside where people take one and get a little too cocky about their newfound skills.
3I'm a black belt in 2 different martial arts styles and seen the change in a lot of women over the years who have taken up martial arts to just get fit and managed to gain a hell of a lot of confidence in their every day lives because of it.
4i did judo in highschool and i am a boxer. i still go to a 2 hour long trainig once a week.
5If I took kickboxing would that count? It was more of a cardio workout than a self-defense class. . . maybe I'll look into something more geared towards self-defense.
6I want to!
7I want to take some with my bf! And then we can practise hahaha!
Yes, i took one. But i still don't feel confident that i could fight some one off. I practiced on my husband and couldn't fight him off. But i am hoping if it came down to it and i was scared then i would be able to fight harder.
8Took one back in high school and in college when they offered it freely (after there had been several attacks within a month)
9I took the RAD course in college too, and it was GREAT
10My old high school offered self defense classes for women instead of PE. I took two semesters of it and it was FABULOUS. Everyone should do it. I would love to take a refresher one now since it has been about 10 years. But I still sometimes have dreams where I am attacked and I use the moves I learned...weird eh?
11no, but i dont care
12It was part of our PE cirriculum, we did a few classes in high school. I do boxing with my trainer, and did Wing Chun for a little while, but I've not done one specifically for self-defence on my own accord. I hear the hand-to-hand combat that the israeli army uses is goo, I should look into signing up for a bit of that!
13Been doing Judo since I was 7. Does that count? I think everyone should take one. Men and women alike.
14Im a black belt in Tae Kwan Do and I think everyone should know a form of self defence. People learn not to walk up behind me and grab me and as they find themselves on the ground.. its happened to friends!!
