Eating quickly is a habit. Mealtimes have become a speedy endeavor, rather than a time to sit down and enjoy eating food. A good meal is truly one of the simple pleasures of life and we get to do it at least three times a day. If you need to slow down, I have an idea for you.

Try eating an entire meal with your less-dominant hand. If you're right handed, eat with your left. Yes, it will feel weird, but that's a good thing. The struggle to coordinate reaching a fork or spoon to your mouth will force you to eat more slowly. You will savor the effort and the taste. Surely, using your nondominant hand will help you take 20 minutes to eat a meal. Try it and tell me how it goes.

I would probably try this but I would probably forget during it and end up eating with my right hand again.
1hahaha i can see me forgetting too - but i'm gonna have to try it - it sounds like a good idea
2good tip. when i broke my arm i had to eat with my left hand. i had ate super slow then. maybe if i do it more regularly it'll help become more adept at using both sides.
3Try to convince a strict Muslim to do this ...
4I have heard of this a few years ago. It wouldn't work for me though since I do not really have a less dominant hand. It can kind of suck sometime when you are ambidexterity.
5Thanks for the tip — it's brilliant!
6Doesn't work for me. I usually eat with my left hand anyway.
7Nice tip, but it won't work for me. I don't have a dominant hand thus, I don't have a less-dominant hand, either. However, switching sides is nice - keeps your brain occupied, and that's not such a bda thing. *g*
8Great idea. Especially since my non-dominant hand is pretty useless...so useless that even when I used to smoke cigarettes, I hated using my left hand. Now look how far I've come: from smoking to eating healthy.
9OH MY GOD this is genius!!!
10i've heard about this and you know, i think that i might try it. it's interesting to see how you are so uncertain when you're not using your dominant hand/side for something - and how much more you have to think about each action when you do it.
