Do you remember getting a tetanus shot as a kid? They were so painful. When explaining why a tetanus shot is important, people always mention stepping on a rusty nail. Apparently rusty nails aren't the only things to worry about. Tetanus is a disease caused by bacteria that live in dust, animal waste, or soil. If you get a cut, burn, splinter, puncture, insect bite, or any other break in your skin, your wound can become infected with these bacteria. When the bacterial spores multiply in your body, they create a poison that affects your muscles and causes uncontrollable spasms. It can even affect your breathing and result in death. Yikes!
As a child, you most likely were vaccinated by the time you were six years old. Every 10 years after that you should get a booster shot. Since I'm sure many of you are walking around barefoot this Summer, I was wondering . . .

i'm pretty sure it was 9 years ago when i was 10 lol
1I just got one a few weeks ago because I cut my foot and needed stitches and couldn't remember when my last one was.
2WhiplashGirlchild, I was just going to say... One shouldn't be "due" for one per say. I spoke to my doctor about it (she asked, which was so impressive; Im not used to detailed check-ups...) and mine was about 11-12 years ago, so I just need to be aware that if I have an accident/situation where I might be at risk of Tetanus, then I need to have the shot.
3I tell all my friends that I missed my last one, so if I ever have an accident in their presence, then hopefully they will remember to mention it if I'm not able to.
4I think that most ER doctors will automatically give you one if you don't know when your last one was. And I think most people don't.
The only reason that I'll remember this past one is because it happened the day after my boyfriend's brother's wedding.
5Just got mine since the last one was 16 years ago. Time flies!
6Just got mine last week! It had been just about 10 years I think.
73 years ago, when I stepped on a piece of glass that is STILL in my foot, sadly!
Damn emergency room idiots.
8I did college and grad school just about 10 years apart, so I got a booster in 1996 and another one two years ago
) thank god for those college requirements.
9It's been a while..but I know that it was within the past 10 years. One of the few good things about Kaiser is they have a list of exams and vaccinations that you should take listed on each receipt for your copay/appointment. That definitely makes it easier for me to keep track of when I'm due for my next one..
104 years ago. Probably to the day. Before I went to Asia
11i had to get one last year before nursing school. SUUUUCH a painful shot! my arm ached for days.
12Four years ago, I slammed my thumb in my car door and thought I broke it. When I went to the DR, they were like, "Are you up to date on your tetanus shot." I had no idea so they gave me one.
13prolly about 15-20 years ago. i really should get one....
14Had mine again a couple years ago. It doesn't hurt as bad the next day if you rub and massage the shot location for the rest of the day you get it.
15foot injuries, hooray. i guess it is a good thing i spent those hours in the ER - didn't get stitches, but i got my shot.
16Got mine about 5 years ago...was bitten badly by a cat on my wrist and I wasn't sure when the last time I'd had it done.
Now I keep the record with the rest of my vaccine records (medical field required...)
17I actually got one today!! I was at the doctor and wanted to make sure my shots were up to date.
18I just received a booster shot in Aug '07 so I'm covered.
19I got mine in 2003 before I went to Honduras, so I'm good for a while.
20I got one within the past year and a half...special thanks to a minor mishap with some work equipment.
21Most immunization shots contain a substantial amount of mercury as a preservative, which is an immune suppressant as well as a highly dangerous, even deadly heavy metal. The body absorbs the mercury and its very difficult to remove from the body without long, expensive bouts of chelation therapy. High levels can cause major birth defects, serious illness and even death. Other side effects are hair loss, feeling drained, suceptability to catching every little virus, bad skin, weight gain/loss, moodiness, and all kinds of nasty problems. Vaccinations can not be required by law simply because no one wants to assume responsibility for the adverse side effects that can be caused. The long term neurological and physical ramifications aren't worth it...
...Take it from someone who learned too late
22got mine last year, and two weeks later i cut my foot open so it really helped to know!
