If you have young kids, you already know ear infections are a part of childhood. Children are susceptible to them because when they're sick, kids have a hard time getting the mucus out of their body. They're just beginning to learn the vital skill of blowing their nose. The mucus ends up draining into their ears, causing severely painful infections.
You can make many a trip to your pediatrician to have your kid's ears examined. Wouldn't it be great if you could check your children's ears at home without a doctor?
The EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor might be just the gadget you need. For $49.95, you can check your own child's ear to see if they have an infection. Just like the one at the doctor's office, this one uses sound waves to detect if there is fluid in the middle ear.
Checking your child's ear is quick and painless - if you can get them to hold still (I always find that element a problem). The EarCheck Monitor has an easy to read display and with the information you can decide if a doctor's visit is necessary.

totally a good idea. the little ones get ear infections all the time.
1I totall didn't know that that was why kids got ear infections all the time. It's actually kinda gross, isn't it?
2Wow, this would make a great gift for a mom, child care provider or even a grandma. It's a little beyond my budget, but I can testify how my daughter got a few ear infections, though fortunately they ended by age 1 when she no longer used a bottle at bed time. Lying down & sucking fluid in is not a good combination, the doctor said.
3I wish they had these when I was little. I was PLAGUED with ear infections and I know the result of parents not knowing their kids have one.
When I was about 2-3 years old I had an ear infection but nobody knew because I didnt cry or complain about the pain. The infection kept building up behind my ear drum until it finally burst through it. I was at day care at the time and they called my mom and told her to pick me up because I had green pus oozing out of my ear. She rushed me to an ear doctor that worked in her building and he immediately put me on medication. To this day I have a scar on my ear drum and I have lost a little bit of hearing. Im not deaf but I dont hear things as well as I think I should. Also Im affected by cold weather. When walking it is painful to have cold air go past my ear so I have to plug my ears up with cotton.
If they had this back when I was little I probably wouldnt have a busted ear drum
4When my daughter was in High School, she was complaining of a noise in her ear. I thought it might have been fluid, so I told her to put a drop of alcohol in there to try to dry it out. She totally freaked when a huge spider crawled out of her ear canal to escape the alcohol fumes...
The Earcheck would have at least told me "Honey, that aint no fluid!"
"The bad news is... it's not fluid.
5"The worse new is... "
Suzanne - That's SOOOO GROSSS!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG Now I'm gonna have NIGHTMARES!!!!!!
JessNess - I had a bunch of untreated ear infections that led to hearing damage, too...(uninsured + unfunded = undoctored!)
I would love to hear some other professional opinions on this...it looks amazing!
