I've been working really hard to get in my five-a-day and one of the easiest ways for me is with breakfast. Usually, I like to have a big bowl of cereal in the mornings and lately I've been buying tasty blueberries and raspberries and tossing them into my cereal. They're both in season and cheaper than usual. I know that a lot of people may already do this strictly for taste, but it's also a fabulous way to sneak in another serving (or two) of fruit into your day.
Do you have any sneaky ways to get in a few more servings of fruits and vegetables into your day?

I eat fruit for breakfast, usually a grapefruit or an apple, so that takes care of a serving right there (2 servings if you eat the whole grapefruit). If you need some protein adding a hard-boiled egg-white is a great fast and easy way to get that in too. I also keep a bag of mini-carrots and some hummus in the fridge at work which is great in the afternoon when I'm sagging after lunch - a perfect snack that gets in my veggie AND prevents me from being tempted by the treats at the cafe downstairs. Plus it's great for the days when I roll out of bed and totally forget my lunch in the refrigerator at home.
1I try to add bananas to my raisin bran, that always seems to be delicious together. Although its not as fresh fruit, I like to add raisins to my oatmeal, I figure its better than nothing.
2I love adding berries to my cereal. I love berries anyway so any excuse to have them works for me. Of course when they're not in season I buy frozen ones.
3I add strawberries to my cereals
4I always add berries to my cereal...especially this soy-flax-blueberry cereal I eat now--it tastes like of like twigs by itself, but with raspberries and blueberries it's pretty good.
5I am not in the habit of adding fruit to my cereals, but I am trying to get in the habit of eating a banana or strawberries after my bowl of cereal in the morning.
6My favorite Mexian restaurant has the best salsa ever, and I always get a big container to go when I eat there. I put it on everything, like eggs, with carrots and celery, and low-fat crackers. I try not to get a bag of chips, because that would be bad news. But the salsa is fresh and has tomatoes and peppers in it, so I feel good about eating it.
7oh and this is wierd, but I had some for lunch today, and I had canteloupes (sp?) on the plate. The salsa ran into the fruit area... and the rest is history.
Salsa and canteloupe = GOOD!
8I will eat my yogurt with berries and fruit as a dessert...it's a lot healthier than ice cream and it tastes almost as good. I also love to put fresh raspberries on my oatmeal in the morning. It's really good!
9I tend to have yogurt and some sort of fruit (berries, nectarine, etc) for breakfast. It's filling, and it takes care of a fruit serving PLUS a milk serving. Two birds with one stone! Apple and yogurt is another good one, and a great (and extremely filling) snack.
10I love putting fruit in my cereal! Especially blueberries and raspberries. Bananas and strawberries also taste really good, as well.
11i like my bananas cooled down from the fridge
12fruits are soooooooooooo good right now!!! i'll put them in anything
13nectarines, peaches, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, kiwis, mangoes... YUMMMMMM
i've never noticed how freaking delicious fruits are in season!! =]
I love to put fruit in my oatmeal or cereal in the morning, right now I am loving peaches in the oatmeal. I also put fruit like pineapple in my cottage cheese as an afternoon snack. It is a great way to sneak fruit in, and add a little flavor. : )
14This is my favorite thing to do!! Bananas and blueberries in my fiber one, or strawberries in anything else!!
15I always add fresh fruit into my ceral or oatmeal. My favorite fruits to mix in on their own or a combo of 2 are: blueberries, raspberries, banana, pineapple, strawberries and orange.
16I forgot to add cherries onto that list; I love them mixed with sliced banana in oatmeal. My favorite breakfast dish.
17Great tip! I also find that I eat less cereal this way, to make room for the bananas and berries. Which is good since I tend to overdo it on the serving sizes for cereal!
18Okay so it's pretty obvious that everyone likes to put fruit in their cereal in the morning, it's always tasty...
but does anyone have any OTHER tips/suggestions? =)
i think piling veggies on salads or into wraps is a really good way to add some servings daily. wheat wraps with sliced grilled chicken filled with spinach, tomatoes, onions, avocado, bell peppers, and anything else you find tasty with hot sauce/salsa is a pretty low-cal and VERY filling lunch or snack!
19Forgot to add sliced avocado on toast with spreadable cheese (like Laughing Cow) and black pepper! Sooooooo good!
20And my husband makes a spread out of roasted veggies (any you can think of, really) and light cream cheese. Just lightly season and roast them until they're soft and mix with the cream cheese. It's great on any breakfast bread, and also a fantastic, very tasty alternative to mayo!
21Ooh! And you can add just about any veggie to your eggs before you scramble them. Actually a lot of leftovers are good this way. Breakfast is my favourite meal, if it isn't completely obvious. lol
22Oeh yes, when I eat oatmeal, I love to add fresh or dried fruit.
but strawberries are so good too,
and of course, cinnamon sprinkled on top!
23The best are white dried grapes
