When it comes to exercising, I have a few go-to activities that I always end up doing. I mix it up between running, biking, swimming, as well as outdoorsy activities hiking and kayaking. I love yoga, Pilates, and weightlifting. I tried branching out and experimented with rock climbing, windsurfing, and horseback riding, but they were either too expensive or not for me. What about you? Are there certain types of exercise that you dabbled with that didn't stick?

Swiming. Water is just not my thing, unless I'm drinking it.
1swimming
2I love yoga, but I couldn't get into Pilates. Maybe that's because I only tried Mat Pilates, but the machines freak me out - I think they look like torture devices. Also step classes and aerobics - to cheesy, too much coordination required for not-that-great a workout.
One thing that surprised me was how much I loved Tae Bo - I didn't think I would be into it, but if you have a good class with the lights down and great music pumping it's awesome and reallt gets up a sweat!
3I tried to convince myself that I LOVED running, but I eventually got sick of it and decided it's not for me. I'm doing bikram yoga and I don't love it but I like it. The weight just falls off.
4I like to run for fun, but as a form of exercise, it gets boring really fast, especially on a treadmill. And I've always found bikes uncomfortable. Give me a nice comfy (equestrian) saddle any day!
5i got this bright idea to do taekwondo. it's really good for you but ugh i couldn't deal with it after two months.
6I love running, biking, hiking, Tae Bo, and Pilates. I like yoga alright, but I never get into it very far because I just get so bored. Not sure why I like Pilates better, but I do. I've also tried rock climbing and it scared the crap outta me, so I never really got into that either. I'd LOVE to learn horseback riding, but I don't have a horse and it's a pretty expensive hobby.
7I LOVE rock climbing... I had a huge disappointment yesterday when me and my freinds decided to try the latin dance aerobics class out our gym. The first thing she asks is "How many new comers?" There are probably about 12... she looks annoyed, rolls her eyes and says "This class has no verbal clues so TRY to keep up." Annoyed, but determined, I tried the class. Basically this woman just wants to practice her club dancing in front of a mirror and convinced someone she'd be a great teacher. After 15 minutes of watching her be enamoured with her reflection, we called it quits.
8I've tried to run over and over again, but it's just not for me. It hurts!
9I think the deal with running is either you're a runner, or you're not. And for those of you who are, great, but its torture for the rest of us trying to maintain the image. "Oh yeah, I'm just gonna go out for a run" . . . please. I'd rather be fat. Luckily, there are other awesome forms of exercise, so that's not a choice I'll ever have to make!
I work out in the park with a group twice a week and after stretching we do a warm-up run. It's only about a half a mile but for me, it's torture and by far the hardest part of the workout. Is it cool to see myself improving and able to run farther? Yes. Would I still rather skip it and do push-ups until my arms collapse? Absolutely.
10Gymnastics when I was younger, it was fairly easy but I never really liked it.
I love ballet, yoga and pilates though. One of my fave was rock climbing, it was my Phys. Ed for one summer in college. Totally toned my arms (which are really flabby now).
11I've tried spinning a few times and just do not like anything about it. I also can't handle yoga because I get bored, but I love the stretches and just do them faster or just a few at a time.
12I love rock climbing (went to Tahoe on Monday), hiking (went today), swimming, and mat Pilates. I've done a few yoga classes, but none have resonated with me. I have only managed to go the classes that are about "feeling the strength of Earth coursing up through your feet and into your fingertips." I like the motions, but I'm not big on the existential stuff. I'd try to find a class in my area not like that, but all the studios charge like $15 a class. Oh well.
13I hated lifting heavy weights. I don't do it! I've lost plenty of weight not lifting heavy. I hate sports, too.
14I just can't run! I wish it was my thing... but it just isn't. Also, I'm a dancer... and get bored with repetitive movement... Hip hop workout for me!
15running, swimming, step aerobics classes(giggled through every class!, even cycling classes weren't for me...
16But hiking, skating, biking outside, and walking were all good for me.
I even tried rock climbing once and liked it. I just don't get out to do it those things much anymore, for a variety of reasons from price to in-between ages with the kids(who are ever-present... I just really need exercize that is family-friendly, and works for all of us. Which is why playing frisbee, soccer, tennis and b-ball with the kids, and walking in the parks with them, is what my exercize consists of these days. I really liked Tae-Bo but I just couldn't do the DVD's at home Billy Blanks made up because they were just so stinkin cheesy... and why does he have to wear spandex anyways?!?! SO humerous and distracting,Billy!! Lol
I might have to try that one day meercat, I get really bored easily too!
17Swimming and stationary biking/spinning. But I do love Pilates, group exercise/toning classes and dancing.
18For cardio exercise, stationary bikes are just too boring. I prefer ellipticals or stair steppers.
19I don't like Pilates.
20I love to dance, I love going to the gym, and I thought I'd love yoga--it seems like it should be right up my alley. But it was too slow, too meditative. I kept hitting the poses right away and was like, okay let's move on now...I need the thinking component associated with dancing.
21I'm really bad at any ball sport, especially racket sports. I don't like the pain from skating -- it always hurts my ankles.
I tried rock climbing once and couldn't even get three feet off the ground. It was a real rock wall, though, and the instructors didn't know what they were doing.
I love downhill skiing and canoeing, but I can't afford it. I took self defence lessons for a little while when I was a kid and I'd LOVE to try martial arts again, but I can't afford that either and I'm scared of getting punched.
22I love being on the water, but kayaking doesn't do it for me.
23Running. I would rather do a keg stand in a Walmart parking lot while getting an enema.
24Spin class was torture! I wanted off after 5 minutes, and the class was an hour! Needless to say, I couldn't walk for a few days...and my pelvic bone was so sore!
25Running. I just can't learn to love it. (Same with swimming.)
I do like ice skating, gymnastics, cycling, and weight lifting (if the weights are dumb bells...)
26I really want to like running because its convenient and you can pretty much do it anytime, anywhere but I just get so sore when I do it. I work out a lot and I'm in good shape...is it possible that I just don't have the body for it?
27I tried yoga and I'm actually going to give it another chance but so far....ugh . I don't know, but I just get so bored of it and if I'm not really flexible that day or whatever I feel frustrated when I can't do the moves, not relaxed like how your supposed to be in yoga!
28Rock climbing is my obsession!
29I don't like kayaking, playing soccer, or doing the stairmaster at the gym--the worst form of torture!! I'd rather just run for hours.
30Running I don't like much. Other things I've tried I'm okay with.
31I tried running but just can't keep up with it. My lungs are just not conditioned enough. I absolutely love yoga but don't care for pilates, although I kinda got into the machines, but not the mat classes. Step aerobics ok, but not really into all the coordinated steps. Pass on that. The gym is ok, but get bored with all of that after awhile. I pretty much stick with brisk walking. Its the only thing I dont get bored with.
32I run, but not often because it hurts, I do exercise on the elliptical trainer at the gym and that's good for me. Love me some weight training and stretching and I've wanted to try yoga and pilates but I've just never done it because I'm not a class exercise person. I'd like to branch out and do other exercises but I enjoy going at my own pace and do what I want.
33I took one yoga class and absolutely hated every minute of it. I'm not, and have never been, very flexible. All yoga was, was a painful reminder. I thought it would be a least somewhat relaxing. NOPE. People keep telling me to take another class and give it a second shot, but NO THANKS! Now, I don't mind a little basic yoga stretches after an aerobics class though.
34Another climber chick here.
But I loathe yoga. And pilates. They bore me to tears.
35I love rock climbing (and swimming)! I totally hate running, however. My parents made me join the gymnastics team when I was little and that was awful.
36I don't like team sports.
37I don't like yoga and pilates, I don't like swimming.
38I hate to say this but i really can't stand running. like I could do a mile or two but after that.. I love to bike though.
39Yoga really hurts me, during some of the positions, I feel like I'm cutting off any air flowing through my body and I start panicking! I also tried spinning once and it left me w/a scar that I still have!!! I stopped pedaling but the pedal didn't stop and it ended up gashing the back of my calf! Blood was everywhere and the folks at the front of the gym couldn't do anything about it but give me a band aid!!
40I adore pilates, but couldn't get into yoga at all. I actually got really nauseous and it wasn't even bikram (in other words, the room wasn't hot)! It may have something to do with deep breathing. I used to struggle with that a lot, but I'm a much better breather now that I do pilates and have learned the correct weight lifting breathing technique. I guess I would consider trying yoga again now that I've done pilates for about a year. I also couldn't get into spinning. I can jog and use the cross trainer for hours, but for some reason I don't have the stamina to spin/bike. I have a friend who did a four hour marathon spin for charity, I gotta give her kudos cuz I'd NEVER be able to do that!
41Pilates and yoga bores the sh!t out of me.
42regular gym stuff gets very boring!
i can't run for more than 30 minutes. i rarely run, maybe once a week... to measure my mile time.
i get so tired the next day when i run, as opposed to my default elliptical!
I think summer is the best time to try new sports.
rock climbing is fun but really hard.
WHITE WATER RIVER RAFTING is the BEST sport ever.
It's so fun and exciting, and really works your arms.
it's kind of pricey but SOOOOO WORTH IT!!
i wanna try surfing this summer
43I'm not good at fast-twitch stuff like team sports. So... I prefer running.
I'm
generally a nervous-impatient-type person, so again, running is the sport for me; it blasts off the stress & keeps that negative part of me to a minimum. *heh*
Pushups REALLY suck, but damn, do they do the trick like nothing else! So I do those.
44I dislike most forms of exercise - I can only tolerate the gym occasionally, and weight training gets exceedingly boring very quickly. I like walking, love swimming, adore stretching, but most of all I like exercise that engages my creativity and/or intellect as well as my muscles. (And I love a great soundtrack!) I'm a dancer at heart, I guess - I take flamenco classes three or four times a week, and I figure skate (though not on a competitive level anymore), and I do Middle Eastern dances with a friend. Running will never, ever appeal to me, and I'm not the biggest fan of outdoorsy things (hiking excepted).
45The elliptical machine -- I know it sounds dumb but I've never been able to get the hang of it. I'll stick to the treadmill!
46Ugh, so many things!
I'm glad to see there are several other people here who hate running, too. I always feel like a Philistine for not loving it.
47Dislikes:
1) Any team sports or things with a racket or club - I have no hand-eye co-ordination what-so-ever!
2) running - unless its stair-running
3) most outdoors stuff - I hate being in the sun unless I'm lounging by the pool/beach with gallons of sunscreen on.
4) Walking - unless its armed with a credit card. I just don't see the point and end up walking as fast as I possibly can. A good thing, but its mind-numbingly boring for me
Likes:
481) Yoga, but only the dynamic types like Ashtanga
2) rock climbing - met my first boyfriend doing this!
3) gym workouts - hence the job working in a gym
4) swimming
aerobics...kick boxing, any kind of class or group...I think its embarrassing.
49Yes. I tried krav maga and didn't really care for it. I'll be writing about the experience in more detail on my blog on Tuesday.
