Wrap it up, and watch the pounds melt off. If only it were that easy.
With claims that body wraps push fat cells together and allow your body to change into a slimmer shape, many folks are turning towards such treatments in search of losing a few unwanted pounds instead of hitting the gym. Experts, such as Dr. Erica Brownfield, associate professor of medicine at Emory, warn us to use caution when opting for a pricey body wrap. Want to know why? Then read more.
CNN reports that:
"[Body wrap providers] claims say they are squeezing the fat cells closer together," Brownfield says," but I think it's very important for people to realize that they're not losing fat cells. Those fat cells, once you decompress them and take those wraps off, they're going to go back to their usual shape and size."
Brownfield is also concerned that, in some cases, these wraps could be a health hazard. "Actually, depending on which wrap you use they can be harmful, they can dehydrate the body," she says, which can be dangerous for some people. She also cautions people to make sure they know what type of minerals and solutions are being used in the procedure. Allergic reactions are one concern, but also any type of open wound, contagious disease or rash might make a body wrap a bad idea.
And finally, if you have any medical concerns, talk to a doctor before deciding if wrapping up is your best bet for shaping up.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: there is no magic bullet. If body wraps were it, I'd have been first in line. Have you ever tried body wraps for weight loss? Did you think it worked?

i've never heard of this! But I did once get a body wrap thingy, but it was for like soft skin not weight loss. They put some goop on me and wrapped me up like a baked potato. It was nice
1I had a body wrap once after an whole body sugar scrub. i did get uncomfortably hot though and felt like i sweated a bit too much. my skin felt super duper smooth afterward.
2Simple exercise and yoga is always better to loose weight and tone up, at least I think so.
3Never heard of it but dancers have been wearing those "sweat" pants for years in order to sweat off extra pounds. Abd BTW, working out doesn't necessarily work for everyone. I know several people who GAIN weight when they work out. So that isn't the answer for everyone either. It's what works for YOUR body.
4people gain weight from working out because Muscle weighs more than fat. That's why weight isn't always the best indicator for health or fat loss. Working out isn't just important to weight loss, it's important to overall health.
5Also, "sweating off extra pounds" is just that. Weight loss through water. As soon as you drink or consume fluids the weight goes back up. I know a lot of wrestlers that would do that though so that they could wrestle in a lower weight class. It's a temporary fix and can be hard on your body, since we NEED water
6I had one of those wraps once to "draw out the toxins". I ended up with a horrible boil of some sort (ewww...tmi, i know). I guess that meant it worked. hmph.
7There is this one, cannot remember the name, where they wrap you up and "bast" you (only way I can describe it) and put bags over your hands and feet and have you get on a bike or some kind of cardio machine and have you use it for a while. Supposely what it does is makes you lose weight and also remove toxics through your pores (which if I remember right you cannot do). The water or whatever they "basted" you with ends up in the bag and turns a brownish colour - supposely toxics. I have read somewhere a while back that it is not toxics but a mineral you are losing - might have been iron. I cannot see how this would work.
8I have gotten a body wrap done before but not for weight loss. But...beware if you are claustrophobic...they really wrap you up!
9i don't do it for fat loss (in fact I've only had about 2 or 3 wraps ever) but I loved them. I felt like a giant burrito and slept under a warming lamp while mud soaked into my skin and then they rinsed it all off and I was, if I may say, ridiculously soft, Sounds nice right now....
10I was wondering about that. These ads all over the place here for a local chain of place that offers body wraps. I thought it didn't make any sense, thanks for the clarification.
11*chain of "salons"
12I did try cuz they said it would take some inches off and they measured me before and after and there were very minimal results. So for me it was a waste of money.
13"Squeezing fat cells closer together"? That's so dumb. I've heard of these wraps, but I'd probably never do it. If it makes you lose water weight, that'd be bad for me because I sweat enough every day when I work out. I feel bad for people that fall for these things and think it's a legitimate way of losing weight. There's this franchise near where I live called "Wrap Me Slender" where you can put on this wrap thing and go on a treadmill for a half hour and you sweat off inches.
14idk, i haven't heard of anything like it.
15I always thought Body Wraps sounded too gimicky.
16people are so ridiculous and lazy... the only magic weight loss secret is eat in moderation and work out. you can't keep forking sh*t in your mouth and expect to get skinny by scheduling an appointment for a body wrap. EAT HEALTHY AND WORK OUT!
17I did a wrap/steam room thing way ages ago (about 2000) and actually it seemed to do what they claimed. My legs looked great. I do remember being so sensitive to smell afterwards and I kept the inches off, because all I wanted was natural stuff. Not a miracle, but a good little detox.
18With a well balanced diet, and a moderate w/o plan- these wraps do work. I've had two within the last two weeks at a wholistic center in my area- and I've lost 14 inches. It defeats the purpose to do if you are not going to change your eating and excercise pattern- but I've tried on clothing that earlier in the year I could not put a leg in-- and in just two weeks, I've been able to get back into the bulk of my size 10 clothing. I'm going to have another this coming week, and after I'll just have them once per month. For me, it's well worth the 65 bucks.
