Unfortunately this tomato salmonella outbreak is growing, and tainted tomatoes have been found in 28 states and 228 people have become ill because of them. Health officials are still trying to figure out if the bad produce came from Mexico or Florida. It's hard to figure out since sickened people's memories of when (and if) they ate tomatoes, where they ate them, and which kinds they ate are a little fuzzy.
For now the culprits are still raw red plum, red Roma, and red round tomatoes, but if you get them from these states confirmed by the FDA, they're considered safe to eat. The FDA says that grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, home-grown tomatoes, and those that have the vine still attached continue to be safe for consumption. With this info, McDonald's and other restaurants and grocery stores will begin serving and selling safe tomatoes within the next seven to 10 days.
I'm curious, has this scare stopped you from eating tomatoes?

perhaps i'd be more concerned to eat raw tomatoes from a restaurant or from preped food, but i don't eat our really.
as far as buying, and eating tomatoes at home, i am not afraid. i wash my tomatoes well, and i'm sure there is still risk, but i gotta have my tomatoes. i make sandwiches for lunch all the time, and i can't have a sandwich without a tomato... a washed tomato
1It hasn't scared me. I bought a bagel sandwich and requested a tomato. I also bought vine-ripened tomatoes just yesterday.
2I love tomatoes and have been buying the ones with the vines still attached. But this does scare me a little. Remember the spinach scare?!
3I haven't eaten a tomato since the news came out several weeks ago. It's just not worth the risk. I'll start eating them again when they figure out where the bad ones came from.
4I planted tomatoes during the spinach scare - I'm not afraid of tomatoes, but I'm only buying them from the local farmer's market.
5I don't eat tomatoes anyway...
6I bought some roma tomatoes yesterday at the farmer's market, but my state is on the safe list any way. I love tomatoes too much to forgo them.
7I work at Chili's, and we pulled all of our raw tomatoes, and I ate at CPK yesterday and they pulled all their tomatoes as well. I haven't eaten any since the news came out- I LOVE tomatoes, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
8The scare still hasn't hit us where I live so I haven't been passing on the tomatoes at all.
9I'm not a germaphobe, but I just practice safe produce handling and I'll keep on eating my tomatoes. I usually buy the grape tomatoes anyway and those are on the safe list.
10I got some yesterday it doesn't scare me away from them - they are one of my favorites.
11I made salsa on Thursday with romas, so, no. The outbreak did not affect the types of tomatoes I usually buy.
12No, not really.
13Though I must say, I was put out when I ordered a BLT from Wawa, and found it short of a key ingredient
The Chipotle stopped serving their tomato salsa for a while. They've just brought it back now that the FDA released a list of where safe tomatoes can be found.
14I cannot wait until all this is over. I really enjoy my tomatoes.
15i have been eating tomatoes the whole time, of course people have now stopped selling them though.
16Yes, I had to curb back...didn't want to take any chances.
17We will also be too happy to know when this "horrible outbreak" will come to an end. Tomatoes are a "Staple" in our family. However, we Grow Our own and if not fresh tomatoes from our garden, then it's off to Grocer for the "Canned version", bet the price's on them will Sky Rocket!!!
