We've already shared our motivations, but when it comes to working out, goals are important too. Goals are very personal, and for me, I like to set a few small goals, rather than one huge one. My previous goal was to be able to consistently run faster (under 8:30-minute miles), but now I'm working on my endurance. My goal is to be able to run regularly for 45 minutes, every time I run. What about you? Maybe you want to be able to swim a certain number of laps without getting tired or maybe you want to be able to run a 5K? Speak up and share one (or more) specific workout goals that you're trying to accomplish.

well i made a good goal yesterday!
11st I want to run for 5 minutes non-stop (which I did yesterday) and then slowly get up to 10 then 15 then 20 then eventually 30!
I know it sounds easy to most people, but I have severe athsma and it is pretty tough for me somedays! But I know I can do it!
Yay 5K this weekend! The first time I've been in a road race since 2005! After that, my next 5K is in September and the goal is to blow this race's time out of the water.
2my goal is to look like that girl in the picture
3My current goal is to bike the entire Grant's Trail in both directions in one go. This is just an 8-mile trail near my house (16 miles in both directions), but heat exhaustion always takes over before I can finish. Yay heat sensitivity...and St. Louis heat indexes...
4I read in some fitness magazine that Leann Rimes can bench press her own bodyweight. That really inspired me and I've been training to accomplish that feat as well!
I also want to be able to do two pullups in a row-I just about collapse after one!
5My goals is two-fold:
I want to finish my next Olympic distance triathlon in under 3 hours. And I want to not worry if I gain weight doing it. Faster does not have to equal thinner.
6Would love to run a Triathlon one day.
7My next goal is to run a 10K. I did a 5K in May and another is coming in Sept. Also, I'm working towards being about to do more boy pushups. I want to be able to do like 50
8my current mini-goal is to workout consistently five days a week. i go minimum three days for capoeira practice, but just yesterday went with a friend to a GREAT kickboxing class, and we both want to go twice a week - so that will meet my five day a week workout goal. but my point is to do it minimum for one full month without skipping workouts (unless absolutely necessary). I want to say that if I can't make it to class, I'll at least run for 45 minutes
Good luck to all with your goals - big and small!
9mine may seem to some but arthritis makes everything harder
10i want to be able to do hour on eliptical. i can do 45 so slowly inching there
One hand push ups and pull ups...I just haven't been able to do those.
11My goal is to run a 5k in under 30 minutes.
12I would love to be able to run a 5K. Hopefully this winter I'll be ready!
13I hate running and I hate running on treadmills. I can just see myself killing myself and killing my ego at the gym. However, my trainer has made me start running on the treadmill and you know what I like it! So my new goal is to be able to run consistantly for 20 minutes.
14After seeing your post a while back about sprints on the treadmill I added some into my workouts. It helped me run more, walk less. Now I'm walking 3/4 mile, running 3/4 mile, with 1/2 mile of gradually slowing down to walking, + a cool down for 1/2 mile. My goal is to run 1.5 miles of that with just 1/2 mile of walking, hopefully by August. Long-term goal is to trade the treadmill for an elliptical.
15I've done a marathon (and would LOVE to do more in the future), but I've always also wanted to do a triathlon. I need to work on my swimming and have started doing so.
16Well, I am in horrible shape and just started working out about three weeks ago, so my goals are very, very small. I just want to do what I've been doing now (cardio, weight training) but do it longer, faster, and with more weights.
17Cut 15 minutes off my marathon time so I can qualify for Boston.
18Disney Marathon 2009!
19To run a half marathon this October.
20My goal is to shed 20 pounds in time for my wedding in October because I am wearing my grandmother's dress from 1940.
21working out regularly.
22To run continuously for 30 minutes.
23Good luck to everyone!
My goal is to be able to run on my treadmill. I can run in our backyard easily. I only can walk very fast but can't run on my treadmill since I bought it last month.
243-day Eventing is my big goal. I ride my horse in dressage and stadium jumping but have never done cross-country. Cross country is about 5 minutes of cantering through a field over fixed obstacles. It takes a lot of strength and fitness for both horse and rider. I would like to do my first event in October.
My smaller goals working towards that bigger one are:
- riding my bike to work twice a week consistently
- being consistent about my core workouts
- add regular strength training to my schedule
Since I started making these changes I can definitely notice a difference. I am stronger, and getting more tone and fitness. Seeing and feeling the changes motivates me even more!
25I, too, need to start paying more attention to my core and weight lifting, tsp. I'm so focused on making time in my schedule for running, I can't seem to fit anything else in.
26working out every single day. and being able to do those one arm push-ups that Christina Ricci did on live tv. Also, if i had a scene in my hometown like the one in the picture I would love to walk, jog or run everyday. However, in Miami, its 90" humid and sticky.
I have to loose a lot of body fat. I would love to look like the girl in the picture.
27On Monday, I began a 12-week program to train for a half-marathon. I'm not even entering a race, but I'm frustrated that I can't seem to push myself past 7 miles (on a very good day). So at some point Labor Day weekend, I'm heading out on my own for 13.1 miles.
28I don't really have any race or anything like that that I want to be prepared for. I guess continuing to improve my stomach and arms and walk a lot more.
29My current workout goals are:
30* to continue working out at least 3-4 times a week
* sculpt my arms and abs
* increase my running time
* run a 10K
* be a "leader" in Boot Camp class
* complete all poses in Power Yoga class
Woohoo!
Jdeprima, I'm sure you could find a race that day, if you're interested. Active.com has a great directory.
My current goals are to be patient enough to let the stress fracture in my foot heal before I begin to run again and make it worse; to eat sensibly while my cardio is very limited during the healing process; and to get creative with what I CAN do while recovering.
Oh, and I'd like to beat my 5K time of 29:22; beat my 10K time of 1:04; and also run a half (which I got injured training for).
Good luck to everyone!
31I'd like to stop focusing on how I look and start focusing on how much stronger and flexible I am. Particularly flexibility in my legs and strength in my shoulders and arms. Lots of yoga!
32Wow these are so inspiring to read! What awesome goals! I'm amending mine haha I want to run my 5K in Sept in under 30 min. I want to get my waist to 32 in or lower. and I go to Hawaii in less than 2 months so I want to look hot too
33This is so interesting reading everyone's goals -- it really shows that people of all levels of fitness are into this site. Me, my goal right now is to keep consistently working out 3 days a week. And to ingrain it as habit instead of still having to psych myself up for each session!
34For me, working out everyday...no matter what, is my goal.
@ Deirdre, I too have to psych myself up for each session...I wish it was easier and I could just get up and do it, without thinking about it a zillion times.
35I'd love to someday run a marathon, but for now I just want to focus on being able to run faster and for longer periods of time. I ran for 10 mins last night at 6.2 (among other speeds and time lengths) and was so proud of that. I just want to keep improving.
I also need to get back to working out more than 3 days a week. I've been doing about 3 days per week for the last month or more and that's just not good enough. I'd like to get back up to 5 days a week b/c right now I'm just cycling up and down the same 5ish lbs b/c of all the days off.
36Right now my goal is prepping for the Army Ten-Miler, in Arlington/DC, which is on my 24th birthday this October. Kicking ass on my first 10 mile race... or, just finishing for that matter, haha... will be my bday gift to myself!
37I'd really like to improve my flexibility, I stretch regularly but I am still nowhere close to where I want to be. I am going to ramp it up with yoga 5 days a week.
38My goal is to run in a marathon spring of 2009... right now I'm training for a relay race where I'll run about 15 miles, so I figure that's good practice... it's Aug. 2nd and I can run 9 miles straight right now... I can do this!
I'm also working on being able to do one
pull-up... thank God for the assisted pull-up machine at my gym!
39Be able to run at least 5 miles straight. Get my body fat down to 14 % if at all possible.
40My goal is to bench press my own body weight (currently I can do only 60-70 lbs) and be able to do 10 chin ups in a row. Also, I want to be able to do a handstand; first supported against a wall and then freestanding. I'm already in really good cardiovascular shape, so my main goals are strength related.
41I have several goals...Run a 10K in August, run a half-marathon end of August, and ride a century (100 miles) in October. After that i'm going to work on running a faster mile and keeping my pace up.
42I'd like to be able to run three to five miles continuously and lose the five pounds I just gained on vacation. It seems like one should lead to the other...
43Get committed to exercising 5 days a week.
44I'm training to run the Nike Human Race (10K) in August and use that goal to finish the Men's Health Urbanathlon - think an obstacle course in NYC
45My current goal is base-building to prepare to train for an endurance event this fall.
461) 5x Navasana, legs straight without caving in my lower-back
472) Free-standing head stands and handstands for 5 breaths without falling over!
3)
4)1 chin up. Just one. And I'll be happy!
Argh posted before I finished! Last one was - double vinyasas for every pose.
48Be able to run 5k in a months time!! ARGH!!
4910 weeks ago my goal was to run 1.5 miles on my treadmill and today I did it! Plus another mile split between warming up and cooling down. Now I need to set a new goal. Hmmm...
