I grew up in a pretty active family. My dad was insistent on getting the whole family bikes when I was in junior high. It embarrassed me at the time, how he made us go on family bike rides, but he definitely instilled in me a love for being active. Now he plays racquetball and goes on daily walks with my mom. I'm really glad he keeps moving since we have heart problems in our family. He knows exercising is good for his health, and it keeps him around to enjoy his grandchildren. Since Father's Day is this Sunday, I was wondering . . .

my dad is one of the fittest people I know. He's a drummer, so he plays drums for hours each day. And we're talking hardcore, like like barely playing. He also does yoga everyday, surfs as often as possible and bikes with their dog. He's awesome!
1He doesn't work out necessarily but he's a contractor, he likes to garden and putter around outside. He could defintely be fitter though.
2My dad runs regularly and he's always doing stuff around the house. He's pretty active.
3My dad coaches Track and Cross Country for a local High school. He plays Basketball on thursday nights and goes Golfing pretty much whenever he gets the chance. He also works out and goes swimming when he has free time too. I'd say he's pretty active and I'm proud of it! He's 52 but doesn't look a day over 45
4My dad just beat me in a half marathon last month. He's 59 and I'm 29.
5My father exercises almost daily, but he unfortunately he uses it as an excuse to eat fattening foods in huge portions so he is still overweight.
6my dad never does anything, he barely works.
7he does NOW. he played soccer and ran cross country in college, but gained weight once my mom fed him too many good things
he started doing long distance running again my second year of college,
saying his lowest point was when he couldn't fit into the airplane seats.
he's what inspired me to get off my own ass and drop the pounds--if he can do it at 50something, i can too!
8my dad doesn't work, doesn't exercise much at all (unless you count golf, but he uses a cart), and hasn't been to the doctor in the 20 years since he retired when he was require to. he recently HAD to go to the eye doctor because he moved to a new home in a new state and he had to pass a vision test. he pitched a fit about that.
it's ridiculous, really. it's stressful, and i don't know what to do.
my parents bought new bikes last year (very cool trek "lime" bikes) and that gave me hope, but i don't think he's ridden his yet. shouldn't have been a surprise since i took ownership of his last bike that he never rode.
9My dad works out 3 days a week. He ran on those days until something happened to his foot; now he walks or cycles. I appreciate that he is taking care of himself so that he can continue to provide and be there for my mom and me.
10Yes he is a carpenter so pretty much works out at work, and he looks great, always gets the younger ladies hitting on him...too bad b---s!
11My dad works out twice a week and runs all the other days. He wakeboards every weekend when its warm enough. A 58 year old showing up the 20 somethings on the wakeboard... ahaha!
12My Dad works in a physically demanding field and a lot of his hobbies are physical but he doesn't set aside time to workout specificially.
13My dad became a personal trainer in his mid-fifties. He has a definate fitness obsession.
14My dad used to be really active; I remember him going for a run every Saturday to get the paper and stuff. But my mom kind of got him to stop working out because she believes working out is too "stressful". Now, the only exercise he gets is an occasional walk.
15I just came home from college and began to worry about my dads weight and health.
16He wasn't ever really an "exerciser" but I started walking with him every night and I was so proud when I left town and found out he kept up the walking on his own:)
My dad is super active - he snow and water skis, runs, golfs like a maniac, and does TONS of other things. He eats really well and I can't remember the last time he was sick. I'm super proud that my 56 year old dad can still keep up with (and sometimes beat!) me.
17my dad is 60 and still runs 4 mornings a week, he used to run in a lot of marathons when he was younger and his back was in better shape. He also bikes and is always out in the yard gardening and landscaping. He is really one of my exercising idols, I am still working on becoming as good a runner as he is.
18my dad doesn't "exercise," but he never stops moving. he doesn't consider a day completed until he's put in 10 hours of solid work. he jokes around about his "zero impact" regime, but he's in great health at 57 years old!
19My dad doesn't 'exercise' but he's a farmer so he does a lot of physically demanding work a lot of the time and is in amazing shape.
20My dad has never exercised, and that's why he has heart disease & diabetes.
21Yes!! And I'm proud of him!
22I don't really know. We live far from each other so I'm not so sure. But when I was still with him, he exercises at least 4 times a week. I hope he's sticking to that!
23My dad got into running several years ago. Now we run marathons together...and sometimes 5Ks and 10Ks, too.
24My dad walks the dog twice a day, and is constantly running around doing errands around the house. He doesn't actually "work out", but he's active and still quite slim for a 58 year old.
25Everyday! He gets so grouchy if he doesn't get any exercise. Every Sat and Sun morning the phone rings at 8 a.m. It's my dad's exercise buddy they disappear for hours running, biking, and training for various challenges. We are all active because of him.
26YES! Close to eight years ago, my dad started walking in the mornings. A year or so later, joined the gym, and now he goes almost every day! Sometimes he goes more than once a day, so I tell him now I worry he is over doing it
But I'm very proud of him, and he motivated me
to join the gym and get my daily dose of exercise in
27My Dad is in a running club, and runs miles and miles every week. He did a 10 mile race this morning in fact! He didn't eat healthily until recently, when his high fat diet caused gallstones.
28He doesn't work out but he's always doing yardwork when he isn't at work. Since he works two jobs so the time he has off he's sleeping, watching movies or in the yard tackling some project. My dad is a smoker and i've tried to get him to quit for years but he's been smoking since he was in jr. high and now he's almost 50.
He just won't listen!
29My dad is 58, plays golf 4-5 times a week, driving range when its raining, and walks 1-2 hours every day with my mom. He's pretty fit and looks great for his age - he's a total fitness and health freak, and he still kicks butt when it comes to soccer or basketball with guys half his age! He can also do 50 press-ups pretty easily, which is quite a lot even for a young guy. And the other day he did a couple clap push-ups!
I'm so proud of him
30every morning, he is up at 4...
31my dad is an Ironman. he works out more than anyone i know. he runs 10K every day at lunch and cycles 50-200km at least 5 times a week, and swims at night. he's crazy fit.
32for the record, golf isn't really considered exercising...it might be active, but its nothing more than medium-paced walking for short distances. you don't have to be fit to golf, so don't fool yourself.
33My dad exercises 3 times a week now (and I'm proud of him). BUT during his mid-years he didn't exercise and smoked cigs and he ended up having a major stroke at 62. It's been 10 years since that happened and now he takes much better care of himself...unfortunately it was a little too late.
34My dad has done some sort of exercise almost every day, for all of my life. He always has some sort of project going on, even more so now that he is retired.
I wish I were more like him, especially in the exercise & will power department!
