If you've never golfed a game in your life, this recent news may inspire you to hit the links. According to a recent Swedish study, golfers have a life expectancy that's five years longer than non-golfers. Amazing, isn't it? I mean we all know that golfing is great for your health because it reduces stress, and all that walking the 18 holes (instead of riding in the cart) is a moderate workout. Could golf be the fountain of youth?
This study also found that players with a low handicap (ones who are good golfers), have a lower death rate. It could be because in order to get really good at the game you have to play a lot, but researchers think it's the actual game, not just the regular exercise, that offers these life-lengthening benefits. This sounds like a great reason to set up a tee time.

I ♥ golf and me and the SO are avid golfers. This is great news!
1That's cool news. I've never golfed, but was given clubs for Christmas a while ago. I plan on learning this summer tho!
2M dad put me in golf lessons when I was younger and I hated it... maybe it's time I give it another shot that's really impressive news!
3Correlation does not equal causation. Playing golf (vs other sports) doesn't cause the increase in life. Golf is a popular sport among wealthy or middle class people, and having wealth helps prolong life too. My hunch in this case having a certain level of wealth causes both the increase in life and the golf-playing.
4I was going to say the same thing about correlation and causality that toosugar mentioned. It's wrong to draw the conclusion that just because two variables are related, one causes the other. All we know is that golf and a longer lifespan are somehow linked. You could just as easily have reached the opposite conclusion--that people who are somehow predisposed to living longer than average choose to play golf more than others. What you've written is misleading.
5well my boyfriend lpays golf ALL THE TIME so i guess that's a good thing since he's like 10 years older than me
6I've never played golf...
7Score for golfers!
8hahaha - golf does not necessarily reduce stress. Try shanking a ball in the woods and rummaging around for it. It's stressful!
9I prefer mini golf myself
10Awesome! Golfing is the only way for me to "connect" with my father! I go every weekend.
11I don't actually play golf, but I LOVE hitting at the driving range every now and then.
