I am a carnivore working to eat lower on the food chain. The United Nations estimates that 18 percent of green house gasses come from the production of meat.

Due to this, the UN is asking the citizens of the world to eat more vegetarian meals. In fact, they suggest eating vegetarian one day a week. Eating less meat means eating more veggies, which is good for your health. So for the health of the planet and the health of my family, I am thinking about bringing Meatless Mondays back to my weekly meal plan. But what I want to know is . . .

It really depends on the week, but I average about 2-3 times per week. My husband has to have meat in his meal. When he stays out-of-town for work, my meals usually end up being meatless.
1Once every two week or so, we've never really liked meat in the family so we all grew up used to eating a lot of vegetables.
2I aim to eat meatless dinners once or twice a week, and I generally eat vegetarian for breakfast and lunch. I also try to keep my meat serving sizes in check; most people eat soooo much more than they need!
3Growing up, we ate meat everyday, and often at both lunch and dinner. When I started living on my own, I experimented with lots of different foods, and realized that I feel better when I don't eat meat. So, usually its about once a week.
4I have been a vegan since Janurary so no meat for me!
5I never eat meat because I really don't like the taste of it. I've tried eating eat once in a while to help get my iron levels up but just can't.
6I used to eat it a whole lot. My mom would make dinner and all I would get was the meat. No veggies. But now...I juststick to ramen and quick meal-in-a-box things.
7Vegetarian for almost 20 years...makes me feel old to say that, but really I just started very young.
8Woohoo for cutting down!
9Hmmmm. I must be on another planet or something because I eat meat 3 times a day.
I have 2 eggs and spinach for breakfast everyday.
Either a salad with chicken, or a tuna sandwhich for lunch
Dinner is usually a SmartOnes and if it doesn't already have meat then I'll add it.
Need my protein
10I eat chicken 3-4 times a year, and that's all my meat consumption. I do eat fish on an almost weekly basis though.
11i NEVER eat meat - i'm a veggie and have been for the longest time. i think that there are benefits to eating meat, but i think that for myself - i get sick even thinking about it, for any number of reasons.
12Never. I'm a vegetarian and get my protein elsewhere.
13I eat seafood about once a week, maybe a little less frequently. that's it. I think it's bizarre when people say that seafood isn't meat.
14You're right. It's weird that seafood isn't considered meat. I always thought that was weird when it comes to no-meat Fridays for Lent.
15We go veggie one or two times a week. Since I do most of our cooking I make sure of it. My hubby would have nothing but meat & green chile if it weren't for me! But with the price of meat I have been severely limiting how much I use in each meal, no more than 3/4 of a lb most nights, and I always make enough for our lunches the next day, so we each usually eat the equivalent of 1-2 actual servings (4 oz. each) a day.
Another reason to go meatless! *Adding to arsenal of arguements for hubby*
16You're not alone, Courtney! I also eat meat at least twice a day (lunch & dinner). Sometimes I'll snack on beef jerkey too...or add ground turkey to my omelettes. I don't believe meat is unhealthy and I do my part by shopping at farmer's markets, eating grass-fed beef, and buying organic whenever I can. I lift heavy so I need the protein.
17I used to eat meat at least once a day, but that's changed a lot in the past few years, now it's only about once or twice a week.
18I've been a vegetarian since I was 13 and I'm 31 now, so it's been a while. My husband is the opposite of a vegetarian and when we got engaged, my Gram said, "So are you gonna cook him meat now?" Ha.
19I eat dairy & eggs (and buy them locally whenever possible) so I know they still contribute their share of greenhouse gases... but as far as meat goes, haven't touched it in 15 years now.
20and i love that so far "never" is the most popular answer!
i think it's about time for VeggieSugar, or at least a bigger veg-friendly section of Yum!
21once or twice a day.
22but sometimes i have a couple where its strictly no meat (for budget purposes only)
Just about everyday if you count fish as a meat. I eat chicken, lean red meat, or turkey about 3 days a week and seafood the other four. Living in South Louisiana makes it easy to get great fresh seafood.
23vegetarian!
24I mostly on eat meat for dinner now and eggs for breakfast on the weekend. But my meat consumption has dropped way down from always having beef or pork or chicken to just eating fish a couple times a week. Most of my lunches are strictly vegetable and ive fallen in love with cauliflower and spinach. So I'm moving toward much less meat consumption but I dont think I will ever be a vegetarian.
25I gave up red meat 10 years ago, all meat 7 years ago, and dairy 2 years ago. I've never felt better
26I think we eat meat every night. Mostly chicken or beef mince.
27I eat meat pretty much twice a day with lunch and dinner. I get so hungry if I don't have the protein!
28We do try to buy organic, grass fed and locally grown as much as possible though.
29I eat meat 2 to 4 times a week.
30I was a veg for 17 years and just started to eat meat again you can read about my veg recovery here. http://veg.iluvspokane.com/
31We eat meat every day. We always have some sort of meat for dinner and sometimes we'll have sandwiches for lunch, like a turkey sub or something.
32I eat some form of protein everyday. I eat red meat once a week but I mainly eat fish and chicken.
33i've been a vegetarian for six years and it just never crosses my mind to go back to eating meat. i gave it up because i had health problems and now i've never felt better about my body and how i'm helping the environment.
34i don't have a goal to eat meat a certain amount of times. some weeks it's 0, some weeks it's 5.
35I eat absolutely no read meat. I hate it, it is so gross. I eat vegetarian at least 3 days a week and I do eat chicken, turkey and fish pretty regularly and I feel healthy.
36Once a day -- lean chicken breast. My other forms of protein are nuts and beans.
Unfortunately, for me, the vegetarian diet was harmful. I used to be vegetarian. I became unhealthy, per my bloodwork. When I went back to my one serving of chicken once a day, my bloodwork results were "normal" again.
The vegetarian diet is NOT for everyone.
37I said "other" because I go pretty much vegetarian in the summer-fall because there are so many vegetable options instead. I do enjoy meat in the wintertime in the form of a good chicken noodle soup or something a couple times a week. So when I'm eating meat, I'll eat it around 2-3 times a week max.
38I've been a vegetarian for about 6 weeks now =]
39Haven't had red meat in a month. Not because I don't want to, that and it makes me ill at times, I just haven't eaten anything with red meat. I love hamburgers and have yet to hit up an IN N OUT in 3 months. wow. been eating gardenburgers, lol.
I vary on poultry and fish, but generally its once a week. I love me my tuna
40i never ever ever eat red meat, i hate the taste. but i probably eat chicken about once a week. i get my protein other ways.
41I eat meat most days, but sometimes only a small amount, like a few pieces that comes with the noodles in yesterday's lunch.
42If you want to stop eating meat here is a good motivational video: http://meat.org
43I started back eating it because my children crave it, and they didn't take to the meatless alternatives. So maybe one chicken breast diced and put into a large stir-fry. They really just want to see that it has some meat. But every now and then I give into making Phillies!
Red meat a couple times a year.
44Fish often and pork, Never.
I had a nurse tell me last week that he sees a LOT of vegan patients who haven't got enough b12 in their diets and end up going insane/developing dementia as a result... so I am convinced I need to keep eating meat. ;p He said there are alternatives to eating meat but they don't contain the right amounts of b12 or in ways your body can process it as well.
I'll stick to eating meat. Especially since I had yummy spag bol last night...
45I'm a carnivore too. I don't think I can live without meat at least three times a week.
46I don't ever eat red meat. I usually have chicken maybe once or twice a week and I eat fish at least three times a week in the summer.
47Every day - sometimes 3 times a day! (think ham and cheese omelette, chicken caesar salad, then steak/fish and veggies) but usually just at lunch.
48Fluffyhelen, I imagine that nurse was exaggerating. It is well documented that insufficient B12 levels are a health risk (as is frequently eating meat, I would add), but there are certainly ways to fortify your diet with B12 to protect against this- for example with soy milk, which I imagine most vegans are well aquainted with
http://www.vegsoc.org/info/b12.html
No diet is perfect, of course, and getting sufficient B12 is an issue vegans need to be aware of (all the ones I know are). But it rubs me the wrong way when people spread false information that discourages from vegetarian and vegan diets, when the reality is, the benefits far outweight the risks. A multitude of peer reviewed studies have found that a vegetarian diet reduces your risk of cancer, heart disease, lowers blood pressure, prevents diabetes and osteoporosis, and so on. I initially became a vegetarian because I love animals and did not want to contribute to the cruelty, but the health benefits are sure nice too, and all the more reason to never go back to a diet that includes meat. http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vegetarian_foods.html
49I only eat lean turkey a few times a week. Sometimes (less than once a month) I'll have lean lean lean hq beef or chicken.
