If you tend to jog at an even pace, then your heart rate probably stays pretty consistent as well. This is great for burning calories and of course you're definitely working the muscles in your lower body, but if you want to get your heart pumping a little faster then you've got to work sprints into your routine.
Since sprinting is tough on your muscles and your lungs, you'll want to ease into them. Before adding sprinting intervals throughout your run, try sprinting the last thirty seconds of your workout. It's easier to run at the end because you know that after the thirty seconds is up, you can stop and cool down. It feels amazing to push yourself, and I guarantee that you'll feel so strong and proud when you're done. I always pretend that I'm racing someone for first place, and that the thirty-second mark is the finish line. It may be childish, but it sure gets my legs moving.

that is a great idea. it's hard to do that on a treadmill though- pushing that stupid little button fast enough to get your pace up is not easy when you're trying to sprint!
1I try to do this. But really, I barely have enough energy to finish my run, let alone increase the pace!
2I like to finish strong when I am running by myself. I hate racing at the end when I am running with someone else because I am too competitive and could end up hurting myself.
3I just got into doing some sprinting and it is really tough. But it feels so good to work that hard.
4I love doing this at the end of my run, or at least at the end of every mile. I don't want to stop if I have a little bit left in me (just one more lap!) but a sprint is a fun way for me to muster up that energy I didn't think I had and get it out.
5If this works for running, then I would assume that adding sprints to Cycling would be a benifit too....
6I almost always end up doing this, just because the last stoplight on my regular running route is a doozy, and I always think to myself, "I am not getting stuck waiting on that corner!"
7I love doing these when I do stairs. I used to tell my trainer I'd race him to the top on my last one. It was fun. It's a good way to end!
8I sprinted at the end of my run this morning, actually. It felt really great!!
