Has this happened to you too? You're all excited because you got out of work early to go to the gym. You're ready to hop on that treadmill and do your thing, but wait a minute - what's that awful, overwhelming smell? It's like B.O. times a million. It's like a cross between mold, stinky feet, and a public bathroom.
You take a look around and realize it's the dude right next to you and they obviously have been sweating in that same outfit for god knows how long. Who can breathe with that stench? Motivating to go to the gym can be hard enough, so when I do go, I don't need to smell your stinky clothes while I'm there.
What is the deal with people not washing their workout clothes? Are they too lazy to do a load of laundry? Do they not have time? Do they not realize how bad they smell (I find that hard to believe)? Or maybe they think if they slap on enough deodorant, it'll cover up their musty stank.
When you exercise, you sweat. And when you sweat, bacteria build up, and that's what makes it stink. I don't care who you are, if you wear your smelly exercise clothes in public, it's disgusting.
I don't care if you think, "Well, I'm just going to go sweat in it again, so what's the problem?" It is a problem. Not only does it bother the people around you, but also you aren't doing yourself any favors either. Your sweat contains bacteria and when that gets in your pores, your skin will retaliate by breaking out.
Fit's Tips: So do yourself and those exercising around you a favor. Follow correct gym etiquette and wash your workout clothes before using them to workout in again. If you're already doing that, our noses thank you.

Ugh, a friend of mine wers the same gym clothes for a month. He won;t listen to us and change his habits, so none of us will go to the gym with him anymore. In fact, we won't even hang out with him after he's been because that nasty stink sticks to him. It's seriously gross.
1theres this guy who ALWAYS gets on the elliptical right next to mine. and he stinks to the high heavens.
2Isn't it awful? I guess some people just don't care or it doesn't bother them. I wouldn't be able to stand my own stink, and would be bad making others put up with it.
3Another pet peeve- some times people try to cover it up with a spray or perfume, which is even worst! I cant be busting my butt on a machine and have an asthma attack because someone is swimming in stinky perfume and sweat next to me....I hate that!! You still stink and you are literally going to kill me
there is no need for perfume that strong at the gym!
4there is a guy who not only smells really really bad, but he has some horrible tattoos as well....as soon as he hops on the treadmill next to me its a combo stench of cigarette smoke and sweaty BO, and most of the time he just started his workout! yukky!

OMG i am having my lunch as i read this! grossing me out!
LOL
6i haven't had this experience. mine is a ladies gym, soooo maybe that's the diff? LOL
Well I don't have daily access to a washing machine (got to love SF and no washing machine in building) and its wasteful to wash a t-shirt and track pants alone. So I use the dancer/Madonna trick and rinse my gym clothes out with Vodka. It gets the sweat and sink out and evaporates. Then when I get the the laundramat my gym togs are not so horrid.
It's has to be good to excellent vodka (absolut or better). it tried lousy cheap vodka from a corner store and it didn't work but went to Costco and bought the huge bottle of plain absolut. Works like a dream on the gym clothes any all delicates with sweat stains and smells.
7excuse me gets the stink out not sink out.
8Yes, I absolutely agree, the body odour is VERY disgusting.
9Some people have only one set of training clothes and they don't have so much laundry every day to wash so they skip the washing and use the same clothes again. But my god, please use other clothes then.
When I was walking at lunch every day, I ended up bringing in a whole other set of clothes to wear so I didn't get sweaty. But I didn't get stinky in them. I left them here all week, then brought them home fridays to wash over the weekend. Still brought clean undies and socks, though! That would really be gross!
Makes me kinda glad I don't do the gym.
10If you wash your clothes with Vodka won't you smell like an alky? Or does the vodka small jsut rinse away? I've never heard that before! I'm not tempted to try it though cause I just would end up drinking it instead! No need to waste good vodka on clothes! *Belch*
11i am one of those people... and i'm so sorry. i wash my clothes twice before i use them again to work out but they still smell awful after i just start to sweat again. i can't afford those fancy shmancy breathable workout shirts so i do my best to throw out the bad ones! any suggestions for washing?
