Riding my bike into a strong headwind used to make me irritable, but lately I have learned to love it. Nature is providing me with an extra challenge for free. Talk about seeing the glass half full!
Running or biking into the wind provides resistance, thereby forcing you to work harder. It's like adding some resistance training into your run, similar to using a parachute strapped to your waist. I've seen Tyra Banks do it, so I know it can be done. On a windy day, you don't need extra equipment, and you get some resistance for free.
It is important to train in all types of conditions, so come race day, you are prepared for all types of weather. Especially windy days are one such adverse condition. When I am running into the wind, I focus on how fast I will feel on my next run on a windless day. So don't let a blustery day keep you indoors running on a treadmill. Embrace the elements and the chance to challenge yourself.

I've trained with the parachute as well as someone holding resistance straps on me while I try to sprint but still hate riding into a headwind. I hope to appreciate it like you do someday.
1Oh lord, working against the wind is tough.
2Yep, still irritated by it. Running is hard enough by itself!
3I don't know if I can ever learn to love the wind. Although, I think I hate it less than I hate humidity...but only SLIGHTLY less.
4A strong headwind is my worst enemy when I run or bike...but a strong tailwind is always welcomed!
5I love running, but I really can't ride a bike - even without the wind!
6Biked just yesterday and started with the wind at my back - heavenly. The return trip not so much fun riding into the wind/ Why can't the wind turn when I do?
7oh fit, you are craaaaazy for liking headwinds on the bike. they suck! i had to deal with some this weekend.
i usually ride my bike just because i like it, not necessarily for a workout. so headwinds forcing more "resistance" makes me want to "resist" riding any further
8I kind of agree... yesterday I ran in the wind along the beach for 7 miles, and I just kept thinking, "Oh well, I can run as slow as I want to!" In this case, I don't focus on speed and just try to ENJOY the run--look at the sunset, the people in love, etc... Seattle's so beautiful, it's easy to escape in these things. I actually drive about 12 minutes to run in this location--it's worth it to me. Letting myself slow down (not even by much!) in the wind allowed me to run an extra 10-15 minutes!!!
9Strong winds usually give me an ear ache. I'm pretty prone to them.
