Walking is just walking. Walking for fitness and/or weight loss is an altogether different story as you'll be putting a little more emphasis on how you move so you get the best results from your walk. Here are five tips to keep in mind to make sure your form is correct and that you're getting the most from your fitness walk:
- Swing your arms as you walk.
- Walk with your head up, and make sure your back is straight.
- Keep your abdomen flat.
- Point your toes straight ahead.
- Walk with a long, easy stride that doesn't strain you.

Thanks Fit! Almost no one knows they should bend and swing their arms when they walk, like in the photo. It is supposed to be beneficial for the nervous system.
1But it looks crazy.
2I swing my arms just because I hope it burns more calories! Does it? And I try to keep my head up but I forget and keep reading console!
3For outdoor walks, I recommend bringing an energetic dog. Mine helps me keep a good, strong pace the entire time.
4I swing my arms b/c I am hoping it is propelling me forward and making it that much easier/over faster
5I usually do all of those things but they are awesome reminders. I love going for a long walk after a stressful day at work.
6Mix it up with hills!
7I try to swing my arms but for some reason when I get into stride, one arm doesn't swing anymore. It's the same arm too and I don't know what's up with that XD.
8I don't care if I look stupid, if swinging my arms burns more calories I'm doing it.
9have fun with it and plan some scenic walks on the weekend to look forward to
