I was reading an interesting article from the National Post that was talking about how Canadians have not been accurately reporting how much they weigh as well as how tall they are. I'm thinking to myself, "Yeah, join the club." Everyone likes to bend the number a little bit to make themselves just a little bit thinner or taller. So obviously this got me to thinking about you guys. Do you bend the truth a little bit whenever you have to tell someone how much you weigh?

Hugo Boss
Avon
Polo Ralph Lauren
Honestly, I don't talk much about it. I'm inclined to add my height up half a centimeter, but that's mostly to get an even number (and be slightly taller than my younger sisters).
1I'm not even sure how much I weight, so I could be over or under estimating
2I can't even remember the last time I even talked about my weight but why would I lie.
3Unfortunately, being skinny means people talk about your weight a lot. Because for some reason, in our society, it's okay to tell someone "oh you are SO thin" or "what are you anyway, 100lbs?". Which honestly is just as rude is acknoledging an overweight's person weight.
But anyway, I usually say I weigh more than I actually do just to get people off my case.
4I'm in the process of losing weight so I'm always honest on what I weight because I'm proud of it! 22 lbs down!
5Who asks how much you weight (besides rude people)? The DMV or a doctor? My drivers license was correct when I got it, but it's wrong now (thanks 10 extra pounds) and I have to get on the scale at the doctors office, so no lying there. If anyone else asked how much I weighed, I wouldn't lie--I just wouldn't tell them. I'm not overweight, but there are those 10 pounds that I'm working on, but not talking about.
6I am totally convinced that people in the US lie about their weight the same way! I've known too many women who weighed "about 105" when they clearly weighed 130, which is still well within a healthy range for most heights.
When I was growing up, my best friend was a dancer. She weighed about 140 and was still a size 4-6, but all her dance resumes/headshots said 110....
7I don't because, I don't lie to myself about my weight in the first place. If I ate more than I had to I FORCE myself to weigh myself and see my current weight. I actually weigh myself every day and when I start seeing a little weight gain I quickly adjust my diet. I guess since I don't lie to myself I don't lie to anybody else, either.
8I do the same, TidalWave. My best friend has threatened to knock me out and take me to a hospital if I ever get to 100lbs. I always tell her I weigh about 5 or 10 lbs more than I really do.
@Renees3: Congratulations!
9I don't. I sometimes may be like a pound or two off...but I consider myself to be healthy and look good so I don't feel need to lie!
10Girls overestimate my weight, so I snidely correct them. Guys underestimate my weight by like 20 lbs, so although I'm flattered, I want them to know I'm semi-average weight.
11I used to lie and say I was 10 lbs lighter than I really was, but that was before I lost weight, now I say I weigh about 5 more lbs than I really do because I don't want anyone to discourage me from getting to my goal weight, because I've lost so much already and I'm so close.
12in today's society, no matter what anyone says, your weight matters. so yea...i fudge on the weight. but its such a rude question i feel.
13I think this is probably a pretty rude question to ask - and javsmav is right, who really asks? The DMV, your doctor, and anything regarding safety (I'm a climber and I know that sometimes for certain activities weight is important). Anything else and it's really not their business.
I think the interesting thing here are people who seem to have some warped ideas about body weight - some not-so-healthy ideas. I have a friend who could not live without a scale - she had to keep herself right under "triple digits" (100lbs). And honestly, I think you have to be pretty short and pretty petite to be in that range. So I hope that people take this as a chance to learn about what would be their healthy range for their height, build, and activities
14I just don't talk about it in person. If I'm at a doctor's office, they have a scale and they know what it is. It's such an invasive thing to be asked about.
And it's not just the very scrawny women who get asked about it. Last week I was with one of my friend's cousins, who told me she'd lost a bunch of weight and needed to give away some her expensive clothes that just didn't fit anymore. She looked me up and down (in a room full of women) and said "What are you, about a size 12? 150 pounds?" Uh, no. Way off- I'm a fair bit smaller than that!- but thanks for being so rude about it!
15I don't mind telling the truth.
However, what I hate is how at the doctor's office, you weigh yourself with your clothes and shoes on (and sometimes even your purse if you forget to put it down). And usually that's a few pounds heavier than when you weigh yourself in the morning, and its quite depressing.
I once told the nurse that the weight is wrong, and she told me: the scale doesn't lie. LOL!
16Tidal I completely agree, I hear "hey skinny-mini" or "you are so thin" and they think its okay to constantly point that out, and be my food police. I would hate to hear thier reactions if i showed up to work and said "hey fat-a$$" or "you are so fat" and told them what to eat.
I never lie about my weight
17i round up or down but its not a big deal if you weigh 121 or 118 and you say 120.
18I don't talk about my weight. Why would people need to know how much I weigh anyway? And I think stupid comments made to someone who weighs more and naturally smaller people too are really lame. There's no need for that.
19I'd probably tell honestly if someone happened to ask because hey: if I lie (more than a couple of pounds, that is) it a) won't make me thin/fat and b) they notice it anyway.
20I tell the truth, even though it's a big number (154) because I've worked my butt off to lose 40 pounds! I'm proud of that number, only 20 more to go! Woo-hoo!
21The only person I ever really talk about weight with is one of my best friends and I can't stand it. She used to be really thin years ago and gained weight over the years. She used to make comments to me about my weight (which was actually a healthy weight) and once told me I was getting fat.
10 years later.......I've had two children and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in and she's bigger than me. Now she tells me how great I look. My weight goes up and down between 135 and 140.... she tells me she weighs 128.......I'm 1 inch taller.
But I would NEVER call her on it. I'm not like that
22i don't mind usually if it's just normal conversation(like if our girl talk somehow lead to talking about weight), but then there are those people who you can tell just ask to be nosy. that really ticks me off. i had one lady ask, and i said i didn't like to talk about my weight...and then she had the nerve to start GUESSING my weight! leave me alone, woman!
23Since losing weight (71 lbs in the last year) I find that I am no longer afraid of what I weigh. When folks ask how much I've lost or how I'm doing, I'm proud to be where I am now. I also find that not being afraid to say how much I weigh makes me a more confident person. It's not that I get asked a lot, but I'm just not afraid if I do get asked. When you start out where I did (my heaviest put me at nearly 300, currently 169), being honest about your numbers is important.
24I dont have problems with being honest about my weight. Most of the time when i tell someone exactly what i weigh...i get a surprised look. I dont look at all what i actually weigh. I always say that weight is only a number...and everyones body is different and carries weight in different ways. Yes, i would love to lose 10 more pounds...(i've lost 10 recently)...but still its better to be honest IMO.
25I have no idea how much I weight, just a rough estimate, so I might be lying
26i lie about my weight because i don't look it.
27i wear a size 10, and i weigh 30 more than my roommate who wears a size 16
Why would I be telling people how much I weigh? Why would anybody be asking? Only my doctor should care, and s/he makes me step on a scale, so it's a non-issue.
28I don't lie about my weight, but I never share my weight.
29No, never...but I know several people who do!
30i never lie about. people always think i weigh less than i do, so it's fun to set them straight. i'm tall and skinny, but i think people sometimes don't factor in added height when estimating tall peoples' weights.
31i'm with you, carhornsinapril. tall and skinny.
32people ask me all the time how much i weigh because i guess they think its okay because i'm slim. its really annoying.
i'm happy with my current, healthy weight, but i recently had someone pull me aside and diagnose me with an eating disorder. this girl only sees me eat one meal a day and she had the nerve to tell me that she "knew anorexia when she saw it". her data included the fact that i "looked too skinny" and "didn't eat real food" (i have a big salad and a piece of fruit for lunch). i'm still boiling about it. unless there really is a private issue, who needs to talk about it?
I've always been underweight for my height & age; I don't lie about the numbers. I would rather be honest about it and move on, then lie and feel a shamed of myself.
33I've lost 70 lbs. since March 2006. I used to lie, but now I'm proud to be honest if someone asks. It really doesn't come up much in conversations.
34First of all, who even asks that? And no, I never lie about my weight. If someone doesn't like it, the hell with them.
35Tidal wave... I'm with you on this one. Some comments are *very* rude. I usually lie about my weight... saying I weigh more than I actually do just so I don't have to hear "do you just eat once a day or what?" It's insulting and rude.
36No one really asks me what I weigh; they usually rather rudely try and GUESS what I weigh because I'm VERY "buff" looking and I weigh a lot more than what I look like I do. Most people underestimate my weight by a good 10-15 lbs and they are often very surprised when I tell them I weigh more. Lots of my friends also try and give me clothes that are too small for them and I have to turn them down because they're too big for me! One of my friends said "Wow, when I fit into these, I THOUGHT I was small...you are positively tiny!"
The only time that it really bugs me is when I donate blood. I barely make the weight cutoff for it, so when they ask my weight, I put it down and they accuse me of lying and putting down a higher number. Why would I do that? Crazy.
37People generally under-guess my weight and I am o.k. with that and not really telling the true weight to correct them.
38I usually round up about 2 lbs.
