If you're looking to tone up your calves, take some time out of your day to do this: instead of walking on the entire sole of your foot, keep your heel lifted with each step and walk on the ball of your foot. Walking on tiptoes is not just for ballerinas. Toe walking isolates and strengthens your calve muscles. Not only will they look toned, but strong calves will make running up hills, hiking, and biking much easier.

Get creative with your toe walking: do it up and down the stairs, walk to your mailbox on your tip toes, or while talking on the phone. You can also stand in one spot and lift and lower both of your heels for one minute. It is a creative everyday way to fit some fitness into your life. Just remember to stretch your calves, too.

Neat idea!
1See, this is why I wear my 3 inch heels every day- to give my calves a workout!
Actually, I used to purposely wear my stilettos grocery shopping- that's some real aerobic excercise, especially when you have to lug the bags up 2 flights to the apartment!
2M-B-T's! Love them. Wish they had an ab equivalent though. Oh well!
3That's great. I was just looking for some exercises to do to tone my calves.
4Great idea! I'm going to start doing this around the house while I'm cleaning.
5I don't know that I'd remember to do this!
6I wish there was a triceps equivalent to this.
7I'm going to start doing this while I'm out walking my dog.
8mini_pixie...me too! I wear my highest pumps to the corner store or just to run and get the mail (we have a long driveway)...great buns and calves workout!
9I do this everyday! I do lits while waiting for the washing machine to fill up or things like that. love it
10I do this when I want to remember to mind my posture and move about more gracefully.
11i do this unknowingly...especially on the stairs
12always looking for a way to tone my calves. thanks fit!
13Just make sure you do stretch out your calves often when you do this. I'd also suggest stretching out your feet (sit, leg extended -knee can be bent - pull back your toes). Walking like this does put a lot of stress on the ligaments on the soles of your feet.
Oh yeah and if you're prone to or are dealing with plantar fasciitis, skip toe-walking altogether....especially on stairs.
Just a friendly fyi from someone who's been dealing with plantar fasciitis for a longgggg time. It sucks.
14I had to do that tonight because I wore some flats that really damaged my heels. It hurt too much to walk around, so I had to walk around on my tiptoes!
15hahaha my bf would be like "Wtf baby!?"
16Great idea.I'll have to try that
17Oh, what I would give for beautiful feet like this models'...
18Oh, what I would give for beautiful feet like this models'...
19i do this unconsciously on the stairs, too, but i used to be a ballet dancer, so i guess it makes sense.
