It is Mother's Day and here at FitSugar we want to know if fitness for you is a family past time with a matrilineal leaning. My mom is into walking and swimming, and she's even a Jazzercise regular. She inspires me, just as I hope to inspire my girls.

So I was wondering . . .

Yes, she does, and I'm proud of her.
1Both my parents excersize 3-5 times a week and are super fit. My brother and I have definately both been inspired as we both work out a lot as well.
2My ma is naturally thin; shame neither me or my sister came out the same.
3Oh and she HATES exercise.
My mom's not very fit but she does move. She walks or takes a bike to work every day.
4By the way, the woman in the pic is very pretty. Such a good example on how you can be absolutely beautiful despite the wrinkles!
My mom used to hate exercise. Last May she joined weight watchers for the millionth time, but this time she got a second-hand treadmill. She loves it, and walks everyday for about 45 minutes.
5My mom taught me so much, and I am proud to say that I taught her about exercise! I encouraged her to walk and she started in small amounts and use to walk in these flat shoes. I bought her her first pair of running shoes and she loved them. She walks 3 miles 4 times a week and works out with light weights.
6My parents religiously play doubles racquetball for like a total of six hours twice a week. My mom also rides her bike often, and walks and swims sometimes (even though she hates swimming; she says she's only doing it to improve her racquetball game. She loves her racquetball!). So, she's definitely getting her cardio. I'm trying to get her to incorporate strength training into her routine, too.
7one of the things i'm really and truly grateful for is that both my parents live such a healthy lifestyle. the stuff my dad eats is ridiculous but he works out so often he stays skinny. he plays soccer, runs, bikes, and does strength training. my mom eats a really well balanced diet and jogs, swims, and does free weights. she taught me that i should eat healthy, but that its worth it to indulge. for example, for today she's not worrying about her diet. i'm so thankful that my parents taught me all that early on!
8My mom does not exercise in the real sense of the word, but she doesn't have a car, so she walks a lot. When the time is right she does gardening and in the summer she swims and usually takes a week off for hiking.
9NO! The most exercise she ever gets is walking around while shopping at Wal-Mart. I'm not exaggerating at all. She's going to be 60 this year, se's overweight, and one of the least healthy people I know. She LIVES off of nothing but sugar (only a slight exaggeration - when she was here visiting she had a half-pound of fudge for breakfast before getting on her flight, then two sodas at the airport and a giant cinnamon-sugar pretzel).
I can thank my mom for a lot of my health habits, because they've all been a reaction against her habits. I eat a pretty healthy diet, get regular physical activity, and do lots of things to get my brain sharp because I DON"T want to be like her. When I am 60, I don't want to look and act 80.
It's really painful to watch my mom be like this, especially when she doesn't have to be this way.
10When it's warm(er) out, my parents walk together each evening. Not only is it good for their health, but it's great for their relationship!
11My Mom has struggled with her weight all her life. She does walk sometimes, but doesn't exercise at all. My Dad, on the other hand has always been into staying fit and healthy, and works out regularly with strength training and cardio.
12my mom rarely exercises, and it kills me! my parents made me play all kinds of sports (softball, basketball, and swim team), so i love to exercise! but the most she does is take her dog for a walk around the block.
Like JudyRie, my mother seems to eat the most unhealthy foods (but not to the extremity of fudge for breakfast). And I agree, it is painful to watch my mother live like she does. I can't seem to motivate her to change, and she says she doesn't have to because she's lived this way for so long, so there is no point in changing it.
13My mom is in amazing shape. She's super tiny and weighs maybe 100lbs.
14Sadly, my mom never exercises. She just turned 50 and she's always had a weight problem. She has a problem with binge-eating, so sometimes I'll see her eat like half a carton of ice cream at once or three pieces of cake. She used to do "Sweatin' to the Oldies" back when I was a kid, but she really HATES to get sweaty or do anything physical at all. I think that's why I'm so into fitness myself...I definitely didn't want to end up like her.
15My mum ran a 10k race before I ever did! She strength trains too, which I am happy about, as it is so good for her bones. No osteoporosis for her!
16my mom and i work out three days a week together since we live in the same area; one hour weights and one hour cardio. we encourage each other through our sets (i have a stronger lower body while she has a stronger upper body) and will wake each other up when the other doesn't feel like working out. today, for mother's day, i was going to let my mom sleep in (since she usually asks every sunday), but she came and woke me up, insisting we work out! our relationship has definitely grown stronger.
17janyango - that's really wonderful! If I still lived in the same state as my Mom I'd love to have her workout with me, and I'd encourage her to do so. Truly very happy for you and your Mom, what a beautiful bond you're building!!
18my mom exercises maybe 3 times a week by walking but that is it. Nothin really strenuous. But I have to say she does watch what she eats and eats pretty healthy.
19JudyRie, my mom is the same way. She REFUSES to exercise or eat right. She just doesn't care. She's overweight and so unhealthy. She smokes a pack a day and eats chocolate nonstop (with Type 2 Diabetes.) It makes me so upset because I worry about her constantly. I just don't know how to get her to care- I've tried everything I can think of. But, because of her, I will never ever smoke or not work out.
20Occasionally only to lose weight though.
21I hear ya, JudyRie.
22Yes, she does...she's naturally pretty small, but she eats super-healthy and walks a couple of miles every evening with my father.
23My mum does aerobics, runs or walks several miles almost every day. My dad is in a running club and runs miles and miles a week. Both put me to shame really!
24My mom used to be a fitness instructor but now due to her back injury she doesn't do it that much. She like yoga though, so we have something in common.
25My mom walks a few miles every morning, and has walked a 1/2 marathon a few times.
My grandma turns 80 this year and got into fitness around 55 (she had 9 kids, not a lot of working out through those years). She swims laps every summer, and runs 6 miles in an hour.
They are both inspiring to remember that I need to keep it up now, and if I lapse that starting up now is easier than later.
26I wish my mother took better care of herself.
27my mom is naturally thin, eats well but she hates to exercise. i'm sure she did when she was younger but eh...seeing her struggle with asthma now makes me want to work harder now so i won't be like that when i'm her age, since i have it too.
28My mom is a mail carrier so she walks for a living. But other then that she doesn't exercise at all. My dad is different though, he's a drummer (and believe me THAT is exercise) and he does Yoga and bikes a lot.
29My mom exercises almost every day. She wakes up at 5:30 each morning! I don't get as much exercise as I should, so it makes me feel like I should be working out too so I can stay healthy and look young when I get to be her age. She's 51 and looks great.
30My mother doesn't exercise; I try to get her to do so, but nothing works. At least she tries to eat right, which is great, but I think she convinces herself that doing that makes up for not exercising. Every once in a while she'll do something (climbing over sand dunes the most recent example) and have trouble with it and realize that she's really out of shape, and she'll half-heartedly exercise for a couple days before going back to her normal routine of doing nothing. She doesn't like being around people, so joining a gym or going to yoga or something is not up her alley, but she won't do anything on her own or just with me either. I really wish I could make her realize how important it is!
31Growing up my mom was active in sports: running marathon, martial arts (she really kicked ass in this), bicycling, badminton, etc.
She was very in-shape and proud of it. Now she does walking and some qui-gong with my dad. I suppose during my college years, she wasn't as active anymore, but just doing some light exercise.
My dad was very much a health nut as well, even surpassing my mom.
I'll be honest, now that I think about it, I should try to be more like her when she was my
age
32My mom doesn't hit the gym or anything like that. But she walks miles pretty much every day.
33She also works at a daycare and runs after kids all day!
34I wish I had my mother's drive! She puts me to shame--she gets up at 5 every morning to walk the dog and then goes to the gym for an hour. Most nights after work she also goes for a hike.
35My mom NEVER exercises and she's obese. Go figure. I'm not gonna lie.. I resent her for it. She eats terribly too. I'm doing everything I can to avoid becoming her in that sense.
36she exercises more than me
