One of my favorite afternoon snacks is fruit, granola, and vanilla yogurt. Not only does it satisfy my sweet tooth, but the fiber from the whole-grain oats and the protein from the yogurt fill me up and give me energy for my evening workouts.
I usually pick up Cascadian Farm Oats & Honey Granola, but I saw this box of Vanilla Almond Crunch sitting on the shelf and decided to give it a try instead. Was it as tasty as it looks? To find out read more.
| Compared to the Oats & Honey Granola, this cereal ($4-5) was much lighter, since it had little rice crispies mixed in with the oats. Not only was it tasty with my yogurt, but it was great with milk, too. I liked the vanilla flavor, but it was a little too sweet for me. It does have whole pieces of almonds, which the granola doesn't have, but it would have been better if there were more. If I had to choose, as far as taste and nutrition go, I'd go for the granola. Even though this Vanilla Almond Crunch contains more calories and fat, it also has less sodium and sugar. |

For healthy granola fans, I really recommend Nature's Path. I just started getting it from Trader Joe's and it's really delicious...I especially like the Pumpkin, although I'm intrigued by the pomegranate.
1I've been making my own granola at home lately so that I can avoid foods that I am allergic to. I have been having a lot of fun with it too.
2Ooh, I have a similar favorite snack, Fit! Except I do banana-flavored yogurt, Grape Nuts, and blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries on top. So so good.
3I have this in my cabinet! I like to add it to a bowl of bran or flax flakes.
4Well, that is a lovely photo, and it certainly LOOKS yummy. I love vanilla almond so I will have to try it.
5did you switch the values for the cereals in the last paragraph? you said that the vanilla almond has more cals/fat and less sodium/sugar, but that's not what the table shows.
sorry if i'm being a bug; i don't mean to be!
6Oh that does look tasty. Went to the local supermarket last night needing to buy cereal, most of the stuff they had the box would have better nutritional value. And why is the healthy stuff so expensive?? i bought seeds and nuts and yoghurt and tea- cost me NZ$36 dollars where as my boyfriends pies and frankfurters cost him $7!!! grrrrr
7omg you all HAVE to try Nature's Path Peanut Butter Granola! YUUUMMMYYYY it's the best!!
8Both sounds amazing. I'll have to try them.
