When it comes down to it, cooking at home is both less expensive and healthier. Having the energy to chop, prep and cook at the end of the day is another matter altogether. I strive to cook healthy homemade dinners five to six nights a week. Am I always successful? Nope and tonight I already know that my family is taqueria bound. But what about you. . .

I don't cook, my bf cooks for us
1Just about every night...
2If "cooking" includes heating up last night's leftovers!
3At least 6 nights a week.
4i eat out maybe once a week, if that. and i never eat take away / order in. so 6-7 nights a week, for sure.
5I can't really answer the question. . . going out is a special treat. But do I actually cook on nights I stay in? Not really. First, I try to make dinnner my smallest meal. . . and I may have a salad or fruit or eggs. But since I'm single I don't techinically "cook" much at all unless I am momentarily inspired or having guests over. Do people actually slave over a stove these days???
6I am usually working until late, so I just bring my dinner to work. I'll cook if I am home in the evening.
74-5 but my bf and I take turns
8Lately I've been cooking recipes for families of four, and my husband and I eat them over two nights since it's just us. But I still prepare a side dish and salad on the leftover night, so I'm still, technically, cooking. So I said six nights a week. We have to either order in or go out once a week.
9I wish my boo and I would cook more, but we try to do it at least once or twice a week. It's hard with our schedules, plus he often has business dinners...
10i eat salad as dinner most of the time. maybe once in a week i eat warm by cooking spinach or something like that, but that isn't real cooking as well actually...
11Once I am at my bfs EVERY night it will be 6-7. I am a fan of making a lot so we have leftovers... But I am not there consistantly now. So I put down "4" for now.
12we typically cook everynight but friday - and that's when we go out to the diner or something casual. don't know how it worked out that way but it's our routine.
13Well I said 5 nights even though my boyfriend does most of the cooking....I usually will only cook 1-3 nights a week while he will do the rest. We don't go out to eat every week but typically we go out to eat once every 2 weeks or so.
14I usually cook 5-6 nights a week...sometimes even 7!
15My bf and I just bought a house, so our budget is a LITTLE tight right now...making dinner at home saves us tons of money!
Cook three nights, eat leftovers three nights, eat out one night
16Depends on the week... some are busier than others and just don't have the time... but money is getting tight(er) so I am looking for ways to cook more to save money (and save time)!
17If by cooking you mean making baked sweet potato fries & dipping veggies in hummus, then I cook an average of 5 nights a week. I haven't "cooked" in a while, but I only eat out (or order in) once or twice a night.
18ha! once or twice a WEEK! I don't eat two dinners every day.
19We've recently converted to a healthy, more natural diet. Since we actually pay attention to nutrition now, we've found that most restaurant food completely turns us off. I can make much healthier versions of our favorites at home. We do treat ourselves once a week to Chinese take-out, but even there we've starting sticking to their steamed dishes with lots of veggies and the sauce on the side instead of deep fried stuff smothered in sauce. We do still go out to restaurants from special occasions like birthdays and such, but even now we're starting to order the healthier things.
20Student budget + trying to be healthier = a whole lot of home cooking.
21I've become a bit of a health nut & I was sick of seeing my bf pick up Qdoba or Chili's or Wendy's or some other crap on his 7-8pm dinner break. I get off work at 6pm, and I've become pretty darn good at racing home and having dinner just finished when he arrives home at 7:15. Because of these time constraints we've had a lot of fish, because it cooks fast. Sometimes I'll do something on the crock-pot, and sometimes we will have leftovers from a larger meal I made on Sunday night. If I just don't feel like cooking I'll tell him, and he'll have canned soup and a sandwich, and I'll have a salad or a sandwich. We haven't done take-out in a long time.
We eat at a *nice* restaurant only about once every 2 weeks or so, and we eat at a takeout/deli/bakery kind of place once a week. We've saved a LOT of money doing this, and lost weight as well! He knows I keep him skinny!
22I cook every night of the week. We never go out - tonight MAY be an exception. Oh, and on a lazy, drunken Saturday we ordered pizza for the first time in 4 or 5 months. Yep. Seriously, it was a crutch (had pizza every Thursday, and McDonalds every day of the week) Since then, I feel a lot healthier. Just need to get to the gym more...haha.
23I cook 7 nights a week, and always from scratch. I do NOT let boxed crap into my kitchen -- everything made fresh. And by cook, I actually mean cook -- not scrambled eggs for dinner.
24I am urging my husband to cook more or at least re-heat homecooked meals so that I am not handling the kitchen seven nights a week. So I'll make stew in large batches for the freezer or extra rice to toss with some canned beans.
25I agree with kia -- larger meals cooked on the weekends make it easy to reheat thru the week. A couple things I've found work well is to shop on Sunday for the week and get some sort of cheap seafood for Monday dinner (it's quick to cook), and get a roasted chicken (inexpensive, and can be used for sandwiches, salad, casserole, etc. very easily). That stuff and a lasagna or stew usually get us through the week.
26A couple night a week I'll bake fish or chicken with a veggie and maybe some couscous. Other nights, I like to just chill with a bowl of cereal or a big fat baked sweet potato and veggies - not rally "cooking" but better than fast food!
27Well, I said 6 nights, but my husband cooks a lot of the meals, too. Since I am a mom at home, if I don't cook dinner, then I'm cooking a big lunch for my boys, plus I usually make breakfast (no boxed cereals of pop tarts here), so I definitely cook a meal a day no matter what.
We eat out in some form probably once a week - take home sushi (for me) and chicken fingers (for the boys) from the grocery store, the buffet, a local taqueria or something similar. We don't do regular restaurants often - our boys won't sit still long enough, and it makes it a total waste. And I don't know how people can afford to eat out much more often than we do - it gets expensive fast!
285 to 6. And always healthy!
My secret? I use a menu-planning service so it really frees up my time to think/act/worry on other things. (You know, like the sugar network!)
29Just about the only thing I know how to cook is pasta...so I don't cook that often.
30I voted 2, but that doesn't mean I eat out five times a week. I'll usually cook a "real" meal a couple times a week, eat out maybe once, and the rest of the time I'll eat something that can be prepared within ten minutes, like a veggie burger/salad/beans. Or cereal!
31Pretty much every night. It's a good thing I don't live in Asheville, NC... because they have *the best* vegetarian/vegan restaurants there. I'd be tempted to eat out a lot more if we lived there!

33Eat in vs Eat out.. probably at least 6 nights a week. But that doesn't always mean we are cooking. I try to strive for 3-4 meals a week, leave a few days for left overs and/or evening of a sandwich and fruit for dinner kind of thing.
It gets tricky with our schedules sometimes.
34We order waaay too many pizzas- about one every week or every other week. But when one of us cooks, we eat really well so I guess it's not the most terrible thing in the world. I love cooking, so when I have time I'm happy to do it.
35I probably cook 2 nights a week. thursdays I don't eat dinner because I have soccer, and I feel sluggish if I eat before, and the fiance has hockey 2 nights a week and he does the same thing. Besides that I will either scrounge around and find some left overs, or something quick. We usually eat out friday saturday and sunday.
36How many nights do I actually "cook" and not just heat something up? Probably only about 4.
375 nights a week.
Saturday--we do take out from our fave restaurants, and Sunday is the day of mom's cooking!
38"Cooking" is such a hard to define thing. Mostly mixing up a can of tuna, or grabbing fresh fruit out of the fridge. Heh.
395 days a week. We usually eat out on Friday's and we usually order pizza one night of the week. Other than that, it's all home cooked. Every once and awhile we eat out during the week but not too often.
40I cook every night, but how much effort I put in varies. Usually, I'll make a huge batch of something on Sunday or Monday and we'll eat the leftovers for most of the week. My favorite thing to make is a big pot of vegetable soup. I'll make that and we'll eat it all week. It just gets better the longer it sits in the fridge...yummy! That and a good hearty salad and you've got dinner.
41as a single almost-college (read:broke) student still living with the family, i cook my dinners a lot. i really enjoy it, actually. maybe the rest of my family will pick up on my healthy eating habits someday ;p
42*julieulie* I'm totally with you. I really am finding it more and more important to say no to boxed and processed foods. Most of us have no idea what these long-lettered ingredients do to our bodies, weight just may be the simplest issue. My hubby and I are university students (im pre-med, hes med), and with all the health implications we see, its really hard not to want to make everything my self. Although our studies are demanding, cooking together has really become such a fun thing now. However,I will admit, I am a slave to wheat thins...
43We eat at home 7 nights out of the week but usually we don't cook anything special just heat something up. The husband usually cooks when we do make food anyway, I'm just too lazy.
44my family has never been big on dinners. we cook lunches, it's the biggest meal of the day.
45I don't cook; my husband does. But a lot of times during the week it's more heat-and-eat because he doesn't usually get home unil 8:30 or 9 o'clock.
46At least 6 nights a week. I'd rather control what's going into my body, plus its just so much cheaper!
