Would You Run in a Dress?

I won't lie to you, I love running in a skirt. They are flattering, cool and not to mention cute. Plus there are many styles out there to choose from making it easy to find one your iPod fits into perfectly. Originators of the current running skirt phenomenon, SkirtSports has just upped the ante and they are now making running dresses. The aptly named Footloose Dress ($62.50), comes in a variety of motivational bright and feminine colors and offers a built in shelf bra for support (A-cup through small C-cups only). Shorts are not provided, so if you plan to be active, footloose, and fancy free in your running dress you best pair it with your athletic undergarment of choice. You can buy a Footloose Dress (and shorts) directly from SkirtSports.

The concept of a running dress is certainly unique, but I am more of a separates gal. What about you . . .

I might play tennis in the dress, but running not so sure. I like to feel a little butch when I am out for a jog.

Its not so much the actual running in it that turns me off, its people staring at someone running in a dress. I think it would definitely make heads turn, and not for a good reason.

SkinnyMarie - that is an excellent point. I don't really want people looking at me while I'm running.

I've played tennis in a dress and ultimate frisbee in a skirt, but I really like to wear a wicking T (not tank) while running, so that sweat moves away from my body. This dress wouldn't do that, so it's a no-go for me.

    SkinnyMarie, I agree.

Actually, that's why I don't run in a skirt either.

I love my running skirt --- it doesn't ride up or punch like shorts can! Smiling

The part that turns me off about this is that there is no shorts component to it. I don't want to spend that much on something that I have to augment with another article of clothing. BOO!

I probably wouldn't wear one, but fun fact: Kathryn Switzer, the first woman ever to run the Boston marathon, ran in tennis dresses all the time because back when she started running marathons it was actually the most functional garment she could find for female athletes!

Not for running because I like to layer, so if I got hot I couldn't take the top off.

LOL... I would never, never, ever wear a skirt to run in. Are you kidding me? Running is about convenience, in that you get the best workout for your entire body and heart at the same time. If any of my guy friends saw a girl wearing a DRESS at the gym, the would crack up--and so would I.

If the dress had built in underwear or something like it, I may be more inclined to wear it. But if you have to wear something under it, then why not just wear shorts

I would consider the skirt. I ran a 5k a week ago and there were a lot of skirt wearers out there. I have one set of bike shorts with a skirt overlay that I like... but that is a bicycling, not running.

I love my running skirts (also made from this company). I have two pair, with the longer shorts attached on the inside. The great parts are the side pockets on each leg (perfect for my single key or iPod or room key when I'm exercising and traveling), and the fact that the shorts underneath don't ride up like traditional shorts, and are vented so I don't feel like I'm really running with 2 layers on.

I actually think it's pretty cute! I wish it had built-in shorts, though, like my running skirts do.

But I'm larger than a C cup so the whole point is moot anyway.

I think this is adorable! I agree that people would stare and think it was weird, but I bet it'd be comfy.

I totally agree with skinnymarie. I feel like I would laugh at myself in this, which doesn't bode well for others thinking I'm a loon for running in a dress. I'd just feel way too ridiculous.

I'm not sure...I'd have to see how comfortable it was and how it looked on me. I'd consider it though.

I'm too non-standard shaped, to wear a one-piece like that; it would pull in all sorts of places.

But I did recently get a running skirt, and I really enjoy it! It's actually a skorts; the moisture-wicking tight shorts underneath. LOVE.

people don't dress to run up here and this outfit would make me feel overdressed when I'm huffing my way through my route.

No, of course not. Wouldn't a dress or skirt naturally hike up when I run?? Or flare up at the back? I don't think a dress would work.

could you really have any credibility as a runner in a dress? I have problems not exposing myself when just walking in a dress, i can't imagine running in one...

If it was more comfortable than a tank/tee with shorts, yes, I would. However, having to wear a skirt, which is long and constantly slapping against my legs PLUS shorts...TOO MUCH. My step-sister is a tennis player, and she's done it before, so I guess it's do-able!

yes i would run or do most anyhting in a dress or skirt and i'm a guy who just wants to be comfortable it still beats me why gous are denied the same right that women have to wear pants jeans and most all other kinds of male clothing but guys can not wear whay would make them comfroatable skirts and dresses for males.

I have alwsys said why not and hey if it work's then why not i would wear a dress for mos anything. dresses for guys why not skirts for guys why not it sure makes a heck of a lot more sense then jeans and pants for guys loose cloth ing like this for males why not and then waht would you wear underneanth why silps of coures and why not women still do that and it would make a guy feel a whole lot better and you don't havce to be a crossdressere to do this but that just might help as well oh well! I want to wera dresses and skirts and what all and why not!
