I know it is easy to reach for chips, crackers or pretzels when you're experiencing a snack attack. Those crunchy carbs are easy to find. But here's a habit to try on for size, go out of your way to find a "wet" snack.
Foods rich in water tend to pack fewer calories into bigger servings and come with added fiber. I am thinking cucumbers, apples, bell peppers, celery or to go really wet, broth based (not cream, mind you) soups. These are known as nutrient dense because the ratio of nutrients to calories is high. Dry snacks, like granola bars, tend to be calorie dense and a snack of just carbs will generally end up making you hungry again soon.
Remember, when snacking it is good to have at least two of the macro nutrients, carbs, protein, and fat, on your plate. I like to crunch into a juicy (read wet) apple and to pair my fruit with a handful of nuts.

Yea, I guess I never thought of it that way!
1Whenver I need to eat something little I tend to go for dry things...but wet foods make more sense to eat!
Thanks Fit!
Thats sounds good. You got the 80 piece Bacon burger out of my mind that Giggle posted.
2I like grapes and I like freezing a mixture of watermelon with juice from a lime or 2 after blending it in the blender as something to have to cool off when the weather's warm. I also like kiwi, oranges and berries, especially raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.
3Any fruit (although I do think apples are a bit dry, along with bananas). I also love broth based soups. But I prefer to make them myself to keep the sodium content down.
4Great post!
I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE grapes - do they count? I live in Miami and there is nothing more refreshing than frozen grapes on a sunny afternoon. I often spend time at the pool w/my family and while everyone is reaching for chips and margaritas I have my grapes.
I didn't have a chance to have lunch yesterday, so I munched on a huge green apple. I've always heard that you should pair an apple w/peanut butter for protein. I had dry roasted peanuts at the office so I grabbed a small handful of those instead and I must say I loved the combination. Hugely recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet/salty snack that's good for you.
5Creamy soups are my weakness... I should learn to make broth-based soups.
6MMmmmm cucumbers and cheese...
7I love apple with a little bit of peanut butter or carrots with hummus.
8I love my slushy grapes! They're just frozen grapes that have thawed a few minutes--I like them that way better than totally frozen.

9I buy a huge amount of grapes and put them in a bunch of little snack baggies and throw them in my freezer.
This is a great tip! I am always surprised by how much veggies and fruit fill me up.
10Ice cream is wet..............
:-)
11No, but seriously. Someone at work told me that carrots are not really a good snack food. They aren't as good for you as other fruits/veggies. Any truth in this????? I eat them all day long......
12missyd, i hope not. i'm eating them instead of chips with my lunch right now!
13I eat a bell pepper every day when they are in season (just bite in like an apple) people think I am crazy...but it is delicious.
14I love cucumbers with vinegar or celery with lf cream cheese.
15cucumbers for sure! i also love me some cherry tomatoes!
16grapes and melon!!! honeydew or cantaloupe ... mmm
17Oh, and to add to this I tried out leeks in my salad today. It's good and I love leeks and I don't always know what to do with them besides use them in soup.
18I am a big fruit and veggies person. My favorite would have to be watermelon or strawberries though. But I do love me some cucumber with a little pepper...mmmm
19I love grapes but they have so much sugar in them
Apples are good for a little while.... then I get hungry again.
20I usually pick "wet" snacks because of the satisfaction factor. My favorite ones are baby carrots, celery sticks, broccoli, apples, or oranges.
21Never thought about it before! But I always snack on fresh green beans dipped in honey mustard dressing. I don't know if that counts as "wet", but I think it does. I also like baby carrots, cucumbers, and granny-smith apples.
22pineapple and cucumbersssssssssss
23Sliced cucumber sprinkled with vinegar or lemon, and salt & pepper. Oh so good at night! Especially when its hot outside!
24i love golden delicious apples with a little, tiny bit of low-fat sharp cheddar. yum.
