My dentist recommends brushing for at least two minutes, twice a day. I admit that those two minutes can seem like an eternity when all I want to do is climb into bed. My dentist is adamant though, he even gave me a little timer to help me brush on through for the entire 120 seconds.

Guilty of rushing through when I want to sleep or head out!
My son and I pick out fun music to brush our teeth to. It's fun and hygenic.
Ok, this is going to make me sound like a weirdo... I brush my teeth in the shower! I began doing it in college, when I lived in the dorms & I had to take my little "shower basket" to the bathrooms. The toothbrush was in it's holder in the basket and after showering I would go brush my teeth. Finally one time I thought, "I'm just standing here, why don't I kill two birds with one stone, and brush in the shower!" Ever since then I've been doing it. I find I am able to brush better because I don't have to worry about the toothpaste getting on my clothes, and I definitely brush longer than if I were doing it at the sink.
I actually have a tight heel, a heel spur or something of that nature and it can effect my ankle, so I stand there and count to 120 as I brush & I stretch at the same time. Those are my two birds!
Always thought you had to brush for five minutes, and felt so guilty if I stopped short...I actually feel great now if the true number is 2!
I have an electric toothbrush with a built in timer so I know when to stop....and usually I'll walk around the apartment while doing it to make it go faster!
I have one of those expensive ones, I forget the name of it, but it too has a timer that shuts off after 2 minutes. My dentists made me buy it. What's it called again?
This is weird, in Germany (where I live) every dentist, every toothbrush comercial and every parent tells you to brush your teeth for 3 minutes!
And since I always listen to music in the morning, I brush for one song which is most of the time longer than 3 minutes!
Definitely rush when it comes to brushing
I have a sonicare which shuts off after 2 minutes. I have braces though so sometimes I have to do a double pass. The braces shred my toothbrush head so I have to change it more often than the average bear.
i time myself and balance on one foot for a minute then swap to the other for the next.
i state the same thing as paulafromgermany. 3 minutes... and these are quite long, at least when i'm in a hurry in the morning. well, so two minutes are the shortened form
i have a sonicare which has a two minute timer
so yep i do it all the time!
May even be longer.
Another Sonciare user here. Sometimes if I feel like it I'll do two cycles, but yeah it's got a built in timer. It also lets you know when 30 seconds has elapsed so you can work each of the 4 areas of your mouth equally.

*Sonicare*
I brush them for quite awhile but to be honest I've never really timed it so I said I was probably neglecting them.
i had $3000 worth of dental work last year so I' mpretty dilligent about brushing. I have an electric but I don't use it, it's not a very nice one.
I actually count while a I brush my teeth. So I spend 8 seconds on each little section and it all totals out to be 132 seconds. Which is a bit over 2 minutes.
When I saw stranger than fiction and they poked fun at the main character for counting while brushing I got a little embarrassed
but it's the best way for me to know I'm getting enough brushing on each tooth!
My Sonicare does the timing for me! Yea!
i don't always but i try to. ever since i saw a commercial that had a 30 second timer for each side of your mouth...top and bottom, i realized that i need to think more about how long i'm brushing to be as thorough as possible.
I've probably had sometimes where I didn't brush long enough, but whether it's less or more, I don't really count. I just make sure to spend some time cleaning all of my teeth.
Not usually. I'm horrible about that.
I try to but sometimes I have canker soars that hurt. So I stop sooner.
Yep, I have a Sonicare Intelliclean. Always get my 2 minutes morning and night.
I brush in the shower too! But it's because it gives me another excuse to stand under a hot shower longer. I wander around the house hoping it'll help me to brush longer but I end up just holding the toothbrush in my mouth.
I'm sort of OCD about it and I time out 2 minutes on my watch while I brush. I have really nice teeth and I'd like to keep 'em that way!
i brush for 4 minutes. and no, i don't overdo it, i don't brush the same area for all 4 minutes, it just takes 15sek to do every sector
Just about ya...
Not all the time, I'll admit it.
I have a SonicCare. I have heretitary gum disease, so I gotta for two minutes morning and night.
I used to have a Sonicare that counted two minutes for me and would stop and start after 30 seconds so I knew when to switch to a different part of my mouth. My electric toothbrush now doesn't do that so I just count (1 one thousand, 2 one thousand) 30 seconds for my bottom left side, 30 for top left side, 30 for right top side, 30 for bottom right side. then on to the floss!
I always brush for at least two minutes, usually longer. I spend as much time brushing my mouth (sides, roof, tongue) as I do on my teeth. Then it's serious flossing, followed up by listerine. I used to be kind of halfassed about doing everything, but every time I floss I'm appalled at how much crud is there so it motivates me to do it everyday now.
i REEEEEEEEEALLY need to brush for longer and more often...I'm debating whether I should take a brush and toothpaste to work for after lunch...
I read that brushing your teeth for 2 minutes is actually a little too long and that it's best to brush your teeth for 1 minute, 45 seconds.
yes actually or maybe less than 2 mins
