When I'm on the road and in need of quick meal, I sometimes stop at Moe's Southwest Grill. It's like a Mexican version of Subway — you pick a type of burrito, taco, fajita, salad, or quesadilla,
and then you choose exactly what goes in it (and you can watch them make it too). They use fresh veggies, but they don't use lard. Plus the meat is grilled right there. The food tastes great and seems healthy, but after looking at the caloric content of The Homewrecker and the Triple Lindy, I am happy that I split a burrito with my hubby.

Nope, that last one is not a mistake. Talk about an unhealthy salad. Well, as disappointing as this info was, it's a great reality check. Just because something seems to be made with pretty basic ingredients, unless you make it yourself, you have no idea how much salt and fat it actually contains. I'll still frequent Moe's in a pinch, but definitely won't make a habit of it.

Hey Fit, have you tried getting it naked? I always get a naked burrito there (no shell) with black beans, chicken, pico, lettuce, jalepenos, and guacamole (no cheese or sour cream for me). This comes in at under 500 calories.
1You can build your meal on the website.
I think what you posted is kind of unrealistic, because you pretty much built everything with the fattiest ingredients (beef, cheese, shells, etc.), and didn't cue people in on how to eat healthfully there.
So the worst thing for you there is the salad? good to know
2Oh no!!! I really was hoping the JC was more at around 400-500 calories. Yikes...
3I have never eaten there thank goodness, thats more than i want to spend on the treadmill
4I am with ash_marie, there is actually a healthier way to eat there. I never order sour cream and if I order cheese I ask for half the normal amount.
And no tortilla for me either!
5I eat at Moes all the time. Naked, w/ tofu, no sour cream, no cheese, extra jalapenos! It's very healthy if you make your own.
6I have never seen a Moe's here in So Cal but we have Chipotle!
7I go for the Art Vandalay with no sour cream. Holy sodium! I had no idea. And huge amount of chips they always throw in the bag when you get take out must be full of sodium too. No wonder I feel so bloated after ((I thought it was the beans).
8Not surprising the salad is that high, a lot of salads in restaurants are bad. A lot of people think salads would the healthiest thing on a menu, but it is not always true.
9I thought the Art Vandelay one would include chips. (Anybody get the reference?)
10I always find these places gross. In Louisiana we have a local place called Izzo's and the quality is so much better. Probably not less calories but the food is actually worth the calories.
11I eat at Q-doba (very similar to Moe's) and I always get the burrito naked and opt out of the cheese and sour cream. I have them pile on the salsa and tomatoes instead.
12I usually get the taco and chips... at least all the nutrition info is on their website, so this is not news to me!
13We don't have a Moe's, but we DO have El Azteca, which is owned and operated by a Mexican family and they have the BEST tacos I've had this side of the border. They make them with whatever you want on them and the ingredients are super fresh.
Speaking of fast food, I saw a commercial for Pizza Hut's "PZone" and I cringed. The thing was twice as big as the guy's head and I'm sure it has to have at least 1000 calories.
14I decided to eat at Moe's tonight! I got two tacos, with no meat (unanimous decision) or sour cream, and it was really good!
15You can eat Moe's fare sensibly. I get their Sidetalker. It's a bowl w/ brown rice, black beans, chicken(you can opt for steak or tofu). I simply add just tomatoes, a very light, light sprinkling of cheese (have issues w/ dairy), and cilantro. Oh, and I crunch a small amount of their chips on top. It definitely comes in 500 or less as far as calories.
16I loved Moe's when we lived in FL. We don't have them here, we have chipotles but I like Moe's better.
17i'm with ash_marisa. skip the cheese, you won't miss it. get guac instead of sour cream. and i always get the kids size burrito. go on the website and play around with your order to see the healthiest option. add cilantro and onions for extra flavor.
18The moo moo Mr. Cow is the kid's burrito and it is huge! My boyfriend absolutely LOVES Moe's! I usually get a quesadilla with light cheese, tofu and onions. No Sour Cream, Meat or guac and lots of salsa! Love it!
19when i go i usually get the moo moo mr cow off the kids menu. what are the facts on that or do i want to know. LOL and the queso dip how bad is that one?
