I've made no secret of my love for the Nike + iPod Sports Kit, which lets you track your time, distance, pace, and calories using your Apple iPod and special shoe sensors. So I'm psyched that Nike is expanding the line later this month, with a new product called the Nike+ SportBand.

According to Gizmodo, the gadget could be released as early as next week. This wearable wristband lets you circumvent the iPod if you want, because it communicates directly with your shoe sensors. Your progress is displayed on a screen on the wristband rather than on the iPod, which is ideal for people who don't like to run with iPods but still want to track calories burned and other data. The gadget also has a USB connection, so you can upload your data to the Nike website to see how far you've come.
Have you tried out the Nike + Sports Kit yet? If so — or even if not — would you use this product?

AWESOME! I've been wanting something like this! But I have the iPhone so I wasnt' going to go out and buy the nano just so it would work with the nike + stuff. YAY I hope it's not too much money!!
1I like it, but I wish they would just make the kit compatible with othe iPods. Why only the Nano??!
2I think they're looking to get about $60 for the unit, but it comes with everything--you don't have to buy the sensor separately. Has anyone used this thing yet? I'd be curious to see how it works.
3total- The reason the nike+ system only works with the nano is because the nano is the only ipod with a locking hard drive. Meaning if it shakes, or gets lightly dropped, it'll still be ok. Whereas the other ipods could get damaged.
4This sportband thing looks cool, but it kinda seems like nike is trying to eliminate the need for the ipod, imo.
This definitely looks cool, but could you use it with the ipod at the same time if you wanted?
5@melissamichelle do you mean using both the SportBand and the Nike+ iPod at the same time? Or do you mean using the SportBand while you have your iPod Shuffle on? I don't know if the accelerometer will send data to both the SportBand and the Nike+ iPod, but I think this is designed for folks that either don't have a Nano or don't run to music.
