Just because you're eating out does not mean you need to conform to eating the oversized entrées. One thing that I often do when I am eating out is order from the starters/appetizers on the menu. Not only are the portions way smaller, but I am also able to get a taste of more foods than just one giant helping of the same meal. I've even gotten my husband on board by convincing him that it's just like eating tapas, which means we're able to split a few starters between us. Be careful though, small portions of some starters pack a lot of calories, so steer clear of menu items containing buzz words such as creamy, fried, and crispy.

I did this once at a fancy restaurant with my husband. The entrees were extremely overpriced and huge, so I ordered a shrimp cocktail off the appetizers menu and a side salad. It was the perfect amount of food and it was a lot cheaper than getting a HUGE entree that I probably wouldn't have finished.
1This doesn't work for me because of the sangria. I love it too much!
2I have a pretty small appetite, so I've done this before...or I've asked for a lunch-sized portion, which a lot of restaurants will do.
If I do get a full-sized meal, I usually have tons of leftovers, which my hubby easily finishes for me the next day!
3I'm all for eating appetizers too. I must stay away though from those deep fried cheese sticks.

6I do this a lot, my friend works at a tapas restaurant and it's so nice to get a couple choices and leave feeling satisfied and not over stuffed. I also get bored with one entree and can never make up my mind so this is the perfect alternative.
7I do this all the time! Especially paired with a nice salad it's much better than a huge entree.

9My and bf do this all the time. We usually get one or two appetizers and a big/entree salad and split it all.
