Does Valentine's Day make you feel bitter, sweet, or bittersweet? Seems like we all just made it through Christmas and New Year's and now here we are "celebrating" another a holiday loaded with crazy expectations. It is easy to feel bad if you are alone, it is easy to feel disappointed in your partner, it is easy to eat way too much chocolate (it may be good for you, but in small doses - let's remember that).
If you do not like Valentine's Day you are not alone - seems like there's a little anti-VD subculture out there, and by VD I do not mean a sexually transmitted disease.

Here's the deal: people say V-Day is a marketing conspiracy, that lonely singles should just 'get over it' and married/committed men use the 'it's just another day' excuse to get out of doing something nice for someone they say the love, but these same people would never say the same things about someone's birthday or wedding anniversary or even Christmas. Can you imagine telling a kid their birthday is 'no big deal, get over it' when everyone else gets presents and attention? Hell, we don't hear conspiracy theories while people are stuffing their faces full of turkey on Thanksgiving!

1Mu husband and I used to fight on Valentine's Day - don't know why. This year we decided to celebrate (we banned it for a few years and there was no fighting). So we're going to cook a nice meal together and be sweet to each other. Hopefull no fightng.
2I hope you don't fight, either, scratch! I think there are definitely preset expectations that are kind of hard to live up to.
I don't care for the whole "SUPER ROMANTIC NIGHT" thing, but I like that there is a day to celebrate love - even if you don't have an 'other', hopefully everyone has some love in their life...even if its just a pet. Sometimes, we're so busy, we actually need a day to stop and tell people how much we care about them.
3I've never had a memorable Valentine's Day till this year. The love of my life asked me to marry him and I said yes! I wonder if he knew what he was getting himself into?
