Fiber is good for you, we all know that. Since the recent study on fiber decreasing risks for breast cancer I have been extremely interested in upping my intake of fiber. Plus soluble fiber can decrease bad cholesterol levels. So I tried these new Fiber One Oats & Chocolate Bars - they have 9 grams of fiber per bar. Which is a significant portion on the 20 grams of fiber RDA.
The bar was tasty and all the ladies in the office agreed that we couldn't really taste the added fiber. The bar also kept me feeling full; all the fiber was working double duty. The bar is quite sweet with 10 grams of sugar - that is roughly 2 teaspoons (as I have learned recently). The sweetness comes from high fructose corn syrup - my least favorite sweetener on the planet. Plus reading further into the label I found partially hydrogenated coconut oil. Ironic, no? I am eating fiber for my heart and hydrogenated oils are really bad for my heart. Hmmmm, something seems amiss.
It comes down to this - this Fiber One Bar is better for you than a candy bar - a Snickers has 30 grams of sugar, and only 1 gram of fiber. The Snickers also contains partially hydrogenated soybean oil. I think it is always better to eat less processed food. Especially when it comes to fiber, I say eat an apple in your oatmeal and snack on some carrots.

How many calories/fat grams?
partially hydrogenated coconut oil is horrible! That's what the put in the Samoa Girl Scout cookies (which as delish but SO bad for you!). I'd be interested to know the fat content of these fiber bars.
1I hate that they sneak that crap in there! Even applesauce has HFCS in it!
I decided I was going to start a letter-writing campaign to my favorite brands (Darn Ore-Ida!!) telling them I wouldn't be buying their products until they removed the PH oils.
2I bought and tried the peanut butter & oats fiber one bars the other day...VERY tasty, but now I know it's because of the artificial crap they put in there!
3I am carb sensitive, how many?
4140 calories, 4 grams fat, 29 grams carbs, 9 grams fiber, 2 grams protein
5I positively love these things. They taste so good. I miss chocolate so much since I've been dieting, and these really help when I get cravings. I figure that this is so much better than a candy bar because it's way lower in calories and fat, and plus the fiber will definitely keep me full. I do wish it had more protein and more vitamins/minerals... but that's why I take a multivitamin.
6I have been eating the Fiber One Oats & Chocolate bars for almost a year now. I was so excited to find such a delicious bar with all of that fiber. Well, I just had my cholesterol checked last week. It was through the roof. I will not be buying any more fiber one bars because of the coconut oil and palm kernel oils.
