What's the Longest Race You've Ever Run?

Since the Boston Marathon is coming up on Monday, it got me thinking about races. Running a marathon has definitely been a whisper in my ear, but so far I've only done a few 5Ks. What about you?

I run several times a week (about 7 miles one day, 4 to 5 miles other days), but am weirdly resistant to racing. I'm not a naturally athletic person so, while I'm very proud to have worked up to these distances, I'm far too insecure to apply them in a competitive setting, even though I know I'd place somewhere around the back of the middle of the pack. I'm slowly working up to half-marathon distance; maybe once I get there I'll enter a 5k.

I've walked a couple of races but ran my first 5K last weekend! I'm so proud of myself for running the whole thing and I want to do more races.

I've marathoned and have jumped in to 18 milers and below to help a youth group train for marathons when some of their mentors have gotten sick and couldn't make it to training races. That was all in the past though.

I am running my first 5k next month coming back from my car accident over a year ago. I am pretty freakin' excited.

I love races. I'm not super fast, but it's just so fun to be out there with other runners. I have my own time goals for races that I try to focus on rather than winning. I try to do a marathon each year with lots of shorter distances throughout the year.

I ran my first 5k last weekend. I hope to be able to run a marathon within a year. Is that too much distance for a new runner? Once I got the hang of it...I LOVE RUNNING!

Because of certain health conditions, I really can't run. But hell, I'll walk 5,000 miles if you want me to!!!

I ran my first half marathon last year @ SF's Nike Women's Marathon...wow, was that tough!! But by far one of my most proudest accomplishments.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I didn't get a spot through the random lottery, but instead, my friends and I are doing the half @ Disneyland in August!! I can't wait to run through Disneyland, it's going to be so cool!! =)

I did my first 1/2 in 2005... and after leaving the military, sort of lost my motivation to run. But one of my freinds made me a shadow box with my race shirt, medal, number and a picture to motivate me to run after work. So far it's been working great!

I have run two 10-mile races and would love to try a half-marathon. I am not naturally athletic or fast, but it is worthwhile to set a goal and have something concrete, like a race, to make sure I meet it! Also it is fun to run with so many other people! Before I started doing occasional races, I had no idea there were so many runners in the world.

I ran a 5k, but didn't run for a year. So I'm building back up using the C25K program.

I use to do marathons but found I am too prone to over-use injuries. Now my longest races are 1/2 marathons; for me the perfect compromise. And every time I line up for a 1/2 marathon and there is a marathon going at the same time I am sooo happy I don't have to run 13 more miles! But what I really want to get into is adventure racing.

unfortunately only 5k... I've run up to 10k at a time in practice, but I haven't been able to get my timing correctly to run a proper 10k race. Hm... this got me thinking. It could be another goal to set for myself this year...

After just starting to run in January (I was sidelined for high-impact exercise for 6 years after a nasty skiing accident), I just completed my first half-marathon and am going for a full marathon in December. In between now and then, I'm doing a couple 15Ks, 10Ks and at least two more half-marathons. Smiling

I've never run a race or a marathon but I really want to. I think a friend of mine and I are going to join a running club that prepares for the next marathon in your City. I'm pretty stoked about it.
