Having a little problem with self-control these days? Fad diets failing you? Have you tried Weight Loss Sunglasses ($18.75)? They're blue-tinted glasses that make your food look dull and boring, so you won't want to eat it.

The website selling these specs says that according to "research" (not sure if anyone scientific was in charge of this study, but OK), blue is the least appetizing color on the spectrum. So the theory here is that if your food looks unappetizingly blue, then you won't want to eat it. If you don't eat, you'll lose weight? Hmm. So my question then is, what's stopping the person from removing those sunglasses, seeing their tasty and now un-blue food, and then devouring every last bite?
Seems like an excuse to wear sunglasses inside to me. Are you buying it? Tell me what you think in the comments section below.

ummmm yeaaaaa ok...
1Well, I'm definitely not buying into this. If I new what I was ordering, I'd still eat every tiny morsel. Besides, not even the style of glasses isn't "appetizing" either...
2Totally not buying it. Maybe if they could alter the smell or taste of food, they'd be onto something, but I could give a hoot what color my food appears to be.
3This is LAME! So are they suggesting we starve ourselves by not eating or just put them on at a certain point so we don't eat everything? Probably one of the most ridiculous things I've read...not buying into it!
4ACTUALLY, it isn't that blue is the "least appetizing color," it's that our deep-down natural instincts tell us that blue = poisonous. I wouldn't wear blue-tinted sunglasses, but blue plates or a blue kitchen would work just as well, I'd imagine.
5This is laughable. It just seems like there are so many reasons why this wouldn't work! Like the other commenters mentioned, you will still know what you ordered and be able to smell it! The sad thing is that people will probably buy these, since we are all so obsessed with losing weight
6hahaha that's so hilarious
7I've heard before that blue makes food unappetizing, but this is just ridiculous.
8I have heard that blue makes you eat less, like get blue plates and such. I thought this was because we don't eat much blue foods so are drawn more to reds and greens. I'll admit, the food does like kinda yuck through blue glasses, but I'm not going to bust them out when I eat out or anything haha
9I actually buy it!!....a little. BECAUSE, well, whenever I go to a restaurant when it's day time and we eat outside (which I hate), I always eat less because the food just LOOKS different with the outside light. Make sense? So I think sight has a great deal to do with it.
10I've definitely read studies that blue dishes help cut down consumption. (Also smaller dishes make portions look larger, etc.) Plus, you don't have to explain WHY you're using blue dishes, unlike strange-looking sunglasses in a nice restaurant.
11BS.
LOL
12pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
13no comment..
lol PATHETIC.. thats all i got to say
what WILL they think of next ?
14If we have an aversion to blue food, then why do I like blueberries so much? I've heard about eating off blue plates to slow your eating down, but I think that was because blue is supposed to be calming. I have heard the poisonous thing too though. Just seems like a gimick to me.
15stupid
16This is lame, but I am interested in how colors affect our behavior. I mean, that's why all the fast food joints are painted Red/Orange/Yellow... I say rather than the horribly ugly glasses, paint your kitchen blue or use a blue table cloth.
17I'm insulted that they think I'd believe this garbage!
18Uh huh...
19Hilarious. I mean, I understand that the blue tint would make food look bland, but seriously. I'd rather try to exercise some self-control rather than wear sunglasses at night in a restaurant!
20Aside from re-wiring their brains or intense psychotherapy, I don't think any product can give self-control to those who lack it. This does, however, make food look icky. I think it would just make people depressed about eating their food more than keeping them from eating it.
21This is about as ridiculous as those silly infomercial foot pads that promise to rid you of toxins.
22I also prefer exercise and self control and I think using blue plates that are a good size to encourage portion control would be more reasonable than spending $18.75 for a pair of blue tinted glasses.
23what rubbish!
24that's actually really funny. do you think that anyone bought into it? i'm sure people must have since they are being sold - but that's just amusing to me.
25You know people are going to buy this! So sad...
26I thought that blue was the least appetizing color. That is why there are so few (natural) foods that we can eat, ie not posionous. How many blue foods can you name that come from nature? Yeah I know blueberries but when you think about how many others are there?
27That said this will probably not work because well people will eat no matter what the color.
HA! Lame.. put these on and starve yourself cuz blue is unappetizing?? whatevs-
28this is ridiculous
29I would buy them but be too embarrassed to wear them in public....so i won't
30actually if you'd have done your research properly, you'd know that blue colour supreses appetite and some modern fridges have blue light instead of yellow installed.
31Why not serve smaller food portions, use smaller dishware, and cook only lower-fat/lower cal food instead?
32tlsgirl---I saw that infomercial too! Those foot pads that supposedly rid you of toxins, lol! Gimme a break
Seriously, products like this are just plain a waste of time and effort. I'm guessing anyone that actually needs them would buy them and just never put them on when
they actually wanted to eat. What's to stop you from looking at a plate of blue pizza and then just take the stupid glasses off and pig out??
33From the image and the website, this looks like a Japanese product. Just a shot in the dark, but this might be more effective in Japan. Half of the pleasure for eating (traditionally) was seeing the lovely way in which it was displayed. I don't know how much weight that has now in Japan, but I can imagine food being less appealing to the Japanese if it doesn't look nice.
34oh wow... yeah right!
35btw i love blue food!! i always go for blue popsicles, blue candy, blue martinis. this def. would not work for me lol
I DEFINATELY BUY! MOST OF YOU NOT BUYING,HAVE OBVIOUSLY NO WEIGHT ISSUES. LISTEN PEOPLE AND ALL YOU CRITICS OUT THERE.. IT'S HOW YOU USE THIS SMART IDEA! SO, YOU DON'T WEAR THESE EVERY TIME YOU OPEN YOUR FRIDGE.. BUT IF YOU ARE EATING OUT WITH FRIENDS OFTEN, THEN THESE GLASSES CAN BE DAMN HELPFUL! ..PLUS IT LOOKS COOL TO WEAR IN A FINE DINE RESTAURANT! 2 TIPS: YOU SHOULD PUT THEM ON, EVERYTIME YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE ABOUT TO CROSS THE RED LINE AND THEY WERE MADE FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN SUPPORT THE LIFESTYLE THEY REPRESENT. MEANING, QUIRKY PEOPLE WHO LOVE DIVERSIFYING AND GETTING OTHER PEOPLES ATTENTION FOR GOOOD REASONS, LIKE HEALTH STAFF ETC.. SIMPLE AS THAT!
36i've read somewhere abt blue-coloured food makes people eat less. well, i'm a malaysian and here we have blue-coloured rice (natural colouring from ba blue flower but some people use artificial food colourings). the rice is called 'nasi kerabu' (rice mixed with raw vege/salad finely chopped). anyway i remembered having pepsi blue back then in school and i don't remember seeing people drinking half a bottle just because 'the blue colour is not appetising'
and i read someone's writing. something like 'if the research is true how can we still enjoy nasi kerabu with pepsi blue'
